Not so VHL. This will for sure outrage the terrorist abroad, and attacks will be stepped-up. It's not about having, or losing the right to burn anything, sir.

    VanHalenLover:
This English speaking country is already targeted by Islamic outrage.

This is why this Quran burning should not take place. It will fuel the terrorist outrage for America even more, giving them more of a reason to attack the world abroad. The terrorist won't win anything either if the Pastor don't get to burn the Quran. And there are plenty of other things that make America a great country too.

I still don't agree with this thinking Richard. The terrorist attacks are made because of our freedoms and liberties, which many other these countries simply do not afford their citizens. The minute we give up even the simplest of freedoms, they have won. The day we stop living according to our Constitution, based on what other country it might tick off, we have lost to them.

Many of those here, including those in the service have voiced similar opinions. That is the beauty of this country, we are allowed to have differing opinions, and allowed to voice them.

Here's to that not ever changing.

but I would lay down my life for him or you to keep their right of free speech.

And for that, we all should be thanking you

    Sargenjd01:

For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.

And it is sad that while soldiers profess there desires to protect these freedoms, civilians continue to fight against these freedoms for the sake of protecting the soldier. No one wants to to see anyone get hurt over this, but as they say, Freedom isn't free. I would happily lay down next to you, Sarge, and fight the good fight.

Ahh nick, religion has done good and bad, another great thing is freedom of religion and the inherent right of government to stay out of religion. I tend to know in the last 75 to 100 years Ism's have killed more people than religion probably has in the last 300 years or maybe they are tied. You know Socialism, Communism,  (Mao 17-25 Million, Stalin 23 Million, Kim Il Sung 1.6 Million, Pol Pot 1.7 Million) Nazism (Hitler 17 Million), Fascism (japan 5 Million)......etc. I am sure you understand what I mean. A great wise man once said that government is not the answer to our problems, government is the problem! I am not a religious man but I do believe ism's should be banned first...

    Sarjenjd01,

You seem to have forgotten the one ism that is responsible for most, if not all the terrorist activity against the United States and it's allies.  Responsible  for the indiscriminate killing of women and children, land grabbing and the worst record for human rights violations in the last 50 years.  Also the only nation in the world who still use military occupation to control free people against  their will.       "ZIONISM"

I disagree. The war on terror will wage on whether the Florida Pastor burns that book or not. Where Islamic extremism is a world threat, there's no fear (by me anyway) that America will lose our liberties, or freedoms to any country in the world that disagrees with the American Constitution, IMO.

Agreed, which is why we need to be cautious and fight FOR our rights, as opposed to asking anyone to stop exercising them.

I hope too that we don't give up any of these rights during this fight, this was my exact point. We risk more from within our own country than we do from any extremest group.

I don't give a damn if anyone burns a Quran, but I'm not going to berate Muslims that get mad about it while we bomb Muslim country after Muslim country without any reasonable justification whatsoever and back a country (Israel) that does so as well.  Should they get pissed that you're burning a Quran?  Probably not, but so long as there's people like you that want to see their wholesale slaughter, and are significantly successful in your attempts to bring that about, then they are the least of my worries.  Should people like you and Israelis ever learn to behave themselves, I would have no problem telling Muslims to behave themselves better as well.  Until then, they are like 15th or so on my list of groups of people that I worry about.

Many people may remember where they were this tragic day; I remeber quite well. But before I share where I was, just a few background notes.  I became a firefighter after graduating college in 1997.  Training took 9 months and by Augsut of 98' I became a firefighter.

September 11, 2010 started just like any other day.  I got up at 5:30 a.m. to leave the house and say goodbye to my wife by 6 a.m.  The 8 guys in the firehouse with me were all bored when the phone rang.  It was my wife, she called and asked if I had the news on.  When I said no all the fireman gathered around the one T.V. and watched the news.  The thing I remeber most vivedly is the news anchor saying "the United States in under attack, an attack of terrorism."  To this day it sends chills down my spine to watch TV shows on this.  Too me 9/11 is the worst day in America's history, especially if you're a fireman.

I woke-up at 7:20 am or so, turned on the TV, (the channel was already on CNN) I saw one of the towers already smoking and the anchors were talking about how there might be an air traffic control problem. All of a sudden the second plane flew right into the second building before my very eyes. I jumped up in complete amazement. That's when the news anchors and myself knew America was under attack. The rest of the horror unfolded all morning long. It's another day for Americans that will live in infamy.

I know those Firefighters, and first responders were truly hero's that fateful day.

P.S. Congratulations King on becoming a Firefighter. I can relate a little because my father was a volunteer fire chief for many years in the little Illinois town we used to live in.
