Well this is a topic I didn't even consider in this thread since it pertains more to common sense than any particular mechanics of this game but I believe someone else gave you a reply already... managing your coins to have a healthy stack and survive through bad streaks just comes down to basic probability and assessing your skill level and how much risk you're willing to take. Like poker, hence the naming scheme.
No it is not common in any sense . I now have to say that a majority of the coin players . From Hack through Legend . Levels that I match up with every day . In the coin rooms .
It is the coin players that have no clue about anything they are doing . Especially the coin format . Their preferred format .
Everyday I hear from them all about how they can't believe they got matched up with a Legend .
How they don't stand a chance against balls like mine . ( lol $5.00/pack Titleist ) .
or like yesterday . The guy says " How can anyone play a 54 ? " I say IDK I can't and never will . He says " It says right here you're a 54 player . " . I said " Lol where ? "
He says " Best 18 hole round 54 " .
IDK if he was looking at my awards or stats or what . But I told him that it was many years ago in the Flash format . And am nowhere near a 54 player .
He said " Oh " .
The next guy says " You shouldn't be allowed to play with those Nike's . Nobody can beat them " Then I looked at his equipment . He had Cal's . Equivalent to mine . He proceeded to win .
Again I lost to 2 Tour Pro's . They were very good . And I won against 2 Legends that were probably better .
In the coin rooms . It matters not . The 3 hole rounds are a hit and miss and can go either way .
Luck if you do and luck if you don't .
It is very difficult to stereotype the mostly coin players . They are either very ignorant and very inquisitive . Or silent with a chip on their shoulders .
Where as a Flash veteran is immediately noticeable . They are personable , good sports , not complainers .
I don't think I'll add a part about this to the main thread because I can't tell you how many "big blinds" you need to have to play in a certain room... but I have seen the figure 20 buy-ins thrown around quite a bit, and that sounds reasonable to me. So that'd mean to play in rio 400k is enough and 800k is more than healthy, get in there AND play some good golf.
I don't have a clue what you are talking about here . And looking at the next paragraph . I don't want to know .
Oh btw don't quote that incomplete sampling part too much.. I wanted to start from scratch and go through all the tiers but got burned out cause the next one was tour pro and the only room for that was beverly, 9 hole matches just sounded ugh..painful. If nothing else it's quite obvious that it scales significantly so "smurfing" on lower tier rooms is pointless both for coins and apparel.
Anyone that wants to translate all that is welcome to . But I won't hold my breath . I don't care to know . I don't think it has anything to do with anything WGT had in mind .
