I played my St Andrews round in two parts earlier this morning, and might have posted a truly great score without some terrible three putts and poor shot choices.

I got incredibly lucky with winds (great tailwind on #9, and on #14-18), and should have taken more advantage (wind speed & direction listed right after hole # in notes below). But the biggest issue was struggling to get a handle on the green speed which seemed much faster than I remember St A's in Champ speed (or had found in practice). I kept running long lag putts 5+ feet past, and missed three of the return putts. The total botch-up of #18 was just embarrassing :(

    Here's the full story:

#1 F pin :: 29@9 wrong club for 2nd, 110 too risky, played safely long 33ft dinged putt but didn't break much, 4ft save PAR

#2  R pin :: 27@9 woo hoo made green with roll on shot lucky to find bump at back of green  but overdid 37ft lag putt, left 4ft to save , got it, phew! right edge  PAR

#3 L pin :: 29@715  >155 well short on 2nd 10yds  dinged 29ft putt but seemed to go hard left off face  2.4ft save PAR

#4 F pin :: 23@445 >170 dinged 3H but came up short  fluffed flop and left it way short!  and missed 15ft big curler  BOGEY

#5  F pin :: 28@830 >208 well-struck 3W unlucky to roll off left , another poor flop well short  and rolled in 9ft putt woo hoo  BIRDIE

#6  L pin :: 27@430 >117 uphill/r-L  very nice 2nd with tricky wind-lie combo  to 4yds and super read and ding on 12ft putt woo hoo! 2 BIRDIE

#7 R pin :: 23@730 nasty wind: aaarggh! played left fairway and just held despite surprising amount of run >190, dinged 3W 2nd to get onto green  177yds distance full shot into wind, still 29yds away!  but messed up 81ft putt and it didn't get over ridge wow!  good lag from 53ft to 3ft , 3ft for BOGEY

#8 F pin :: 23@930 terrible pull but lucky to reach green nonetheless  36ft away and too wide with putt  2ft PAR

#9  R pin :: 24@1230 perfect wind!!! dinged drive went a little left of aim but drove green to 3yds , and sunk the 9ft putt  for EAGLE

#10  R pin :: 27@8 >81 ugghh, came up short poor mishit , great chip nearly holed out , 0.7ft PAR

#11  F pin :: 26@730 again, v nice wind for front pin: almost dinged 170fbs and pin-high 3yds left , good try from 11ft massive curler , 2.4ft save PAR

#12 B pin :: 30@1030 dinged D cleared first bunkers and just held up before last one , dinged LW fbs but rolled off green to fringe!   should have tried run-up instead, lagged to 3ft from 49ft fringe , 3ft save PAR

#13 R pin :: 26@130 good hit on D strangely short  lucky to avoid bunkers in end; managed GIR from tricky position bouncing on 180 club   69ft lag pulled and way hard, and misread 6ft putt dinged but broke too much, clumsy 3putt BOGEY

#14 L pin :: 28@12 >258 v close with 3W 2nd to getting over ridge onto green but just rolled back; flop from in front landed 11yds ran to 27!  2yds past and made 7ft return putt right-side BIRDIE

#15 B pin :: 27@12 dingedD 271 >139, tried run-on with 9iron but landed well short of right spot, on but 18yds away  dinged 56ft putt but went 12ft past! (added just 0.5) , dinged 12ft return but just lipped out  BOGEY

#16 R pin :: 30@12 another astonishingly nice tailwind that actually put me in tricky position to get close >32 tried 31 pitch 3/4bs 92% worked out real well! , but missed the 7ft putt, not enough break  PAR

#17  M pin :: 29@9 D onto fairway >208 and played beauty 3W to 2yds  and made the 6ft curler woo hoo!  BIRDIE

#18 Default pin :: 25@1  282>73  total mess-up trying to punch run 2nd shot on went way off back of green! , hit full 16 flop but still 5yds short, oh dear! , and a poor miss ding on 16ft par save attempt, yikes!  very bad BOGEY

Here are a few screengrabs, starting with the pitch shot on #16, perhaps best links shot of the round. Middle pic is where I ended up going through back of #18, and last up is the strange view I got from Zoom camera trying to figure out what to do next (not so helpful!).

Here, for reference, is the alternative Greenshot option of the 4 different clubs (as an example for anyone struggling with doing a Hover screengrab):

2nd round 75 at st andrews, could have been easily under par, the top players will go low 60's imo.

Corwyn, is it possible you could get in touch with WGT and get them to implement rules so that there is no need for computer illiterates like myself to try and find out how to post umpteen scorecards, screen images etc?

I really enjoy playing these comps and appreciate the effort you put in, surely WGT could find a way round this?

    Thanks again.

    Bah humbug :/

Clubs n stats at 39:00 in the vid Corwyn 75tio

75 in rd 2 for me with 3x 3 putts, mostly my laziness..

Lipout from 22ft for bird on 1, edged the birdie putt from 38ft on 2 and 3 putted 3, kinda set the tone for the rest of my round..

A wee bit tougher from further back made alot of difference imo but good fun once again.

    Peace,

    Liz

    Horrible back-nine 44 leads to an 81, including 6 three-putts.

How to derail a good round in four easy steps:

    1. Get a headwind on #13. I honestly don't know where to hit it on the second shot to have a decent chance of saving par; I went for the right edge of the green, tried a flop shot, and had 30 feet left.

    2. Get a headwind on #14, attempt to crawl the approach over the front ridge, and fail. Another 30 foot par putt, another bogey.

    3. Click early and pull your drive on #16 into a bunker.

    4. Click late and slice your drive on #17 into the hotel.

One bad break, one bad decision, and two bad shots cost me six strokes, turning my -3 round into a 75.

I spent most of the front nine hitting good approaches, but after making birdie on the first, I missed at least four 10-15 foot birdie putts including one after a brilliant running approach from the rough on #5. I did hole a 15-footer on #7, but it was for par after I failed to reach the fairway.

...and I just realized my bag shot doesn't actually show the bag.

    Here's my second round.
The unexplained difference in the results with the first ... perhaps the "first round" I was not focused.
I hope that the screen shots go well this time.
