    Henry,

You are important even in retirement.  I am sure many are happy for the work you did as a police officer.  Thank you for your service!  I was just telling you what I believe the problem is.

    Blessings,

    Marion

    Where truth leads

You can’t learn anything from someone who agrees with everything you say. It might feel good, but it doesn’t really do you any good.

You also can’t learn anything from someone who disagrees with everything you say. When there is no common ground, there is no way to convey information.

Some people, though, are able to understand you and at the same time challenge you. Seek out those people and you can learn much from your interactions with them.

When your thoughts and ideas are challenged, they become more clear, more aligned with truth, more valuable. Be willing to question your thoughts, even to possibly discard them, and your thinking grows in power.

With each experience, with every interaction, you expand your ability to understand. Rather than seeking to hear only what you agree with, seek new levels of truth.

Open your knowledge, your ideas, and yourself to challenge. And go where the truth leads.

    Love this life

Love this amazing life. Love every bit of it, every minute of it.

Love the difficulties, love the joys. Love the contradictions and the dilemmas.

Love the memories and the hopes. Love the frustrations, love the satisfactions.

Love being able to make things happen. Love standing in awe of things you cannot possibly change and would never even want to.

Love all you have and the things you cannot ever have. Love moments of relaxation and love the times of effort.

Love the dawn, the dusk, the dark of night, the thunder and the sunshine. Love until you have no more to love, and then find more.

    Goodness you cannot see

Life finds a way to improve. Often the process is difficult, painful, unexpected and baffling, yet it does eventually make headway.

When you’ve experienced disappointment, keep going. Adjust your expectations, adjust your strategy, and you’ll find a way forward.

Rarely is anything ever as good as you hoped it would be, or as bad as you feared it would be. And in between those extremes, slowly and steadily, is the space to move ahead.

No matter what has come before, you can build on it. No matter what is going on now, you can find something of value in it.

Know the possibility is there, and you will come to see it. Live and work as if you’re making progress, and the progress will happen.

Have faith in the goodness you cannot yet see. Your faith will bring it to life.

    Your destiny awaits

What can you choose right now that will make you wish you had chosen it a long time ago? Choose it, and go forward with it.

What path do you know would be a very good one, that you’ve been hesitant to begin? Today, as you feel the courage to do so, take your first step on that path.

Somewhere deep within, you know what will bring your life to a new level of fulfillment. Remind yourself that there’s no reason to put it off any longer.

For so long it’s been all too easy to numb yourself with distractions of every sort. Yet through it all your purpose and your destiny have remained.

Allow that purpose to fill your awareness. Realize, perhaps for the first time in a very long time, how right it feels and how essential it is.

Go ahead and give in fully to who you know you are, to what you know you can do. Your destiny awaits.

    Zero in on the positive

The way you think about this moment, this day, this life, affects the way you live it. The way you live determines the life you experience.

Just because you think something doesn’t make it true. Yet over time, through choices and actions, your thoughts do drive the reality of your life.

In what direction are your thoughts pointed right now? Make sure it’s a direction you really want to go.

Are you focused only on what has gone wrong and extrapolating that into more that will go wrong? Though it’s essential to acknowledge the difficult realities, you never have to do so from a negative perspective.

Activate the power of your observation, your wisdom, your experience. Make an intentional choice to see the positive possibilities, and you will.

Allow fear, anger, resentment, and worry to all fall away. Zero in on the positive and realistic possibilities, and go from there.

    Be surprising

If you’re only around people who say what you expect them to say, get around different people. If you always say what others expect you to say, get around different ideas.

It’s great to be dependable, and great to deal with others who are dependable. Being predictable is a whole other matter.

If you already know what someone else is going to say, there’s no point in having that conversation. If you merely repeat what you always repeat, why would anyone listen to you?

Life is about more than just being spoon fed with validation. Life is best lived as a unique, surprising, original individual.

Go where you will be surprised and challenged, where you can add new substance to your perspective. When you get there, offer some unexpected insights of your own.

Sharpen your ability for novel, original thoughts, and then put that ability to good use. Be surprised, and be surprising.

    Your time to live

This is your time to live. This is your time to add beauty and value to the experience of life.

Treasure this precious time. Protect it from meaningless distractions and destructive negativity by filling it with purposeful action.

Time is steadily added to your life. Be just as steady in your use of it.

Don’t waste your time. Don’t hurry through it.

Give your love, attention, and care to every moment. Wherever you are, whoever you’re with, whatever you’re doing, do it with excellence.

Take this time that is now yours and focus on fulfilling its highest possibilities. This is your time to live, and to give new richness to life.

    You have what it takes

You can find wisdom in every corner of life. Open yourself to it.

You will gain knowledge and strength from every experience. That goes double, triple, ten times for the difficult ones.

Get out there, get going, live and learn. Dig out new ways to transform that learning into richness, into beauty, into fulfillment.

Stop wishing in vain that you could rearrange the past or be magically inserted into a different present. Reach within yourself and figure out what you can do with whatever you have, with whatever the situation may be.

It will absolutely require some difficult choices, and you’re absolutely capable of making those choices. Go ahead, for your own sake, for your family’s sake, for the world’s sake, move forward with those choices.

Decide right now to be a fully active participant in the future. You have what it takes, so put it all to good use.
