Since all multi-player play is ranked, it probably wouldn't work it. Your opponent(s) would have to agree to give you the putt. If you're playing in a foursome, having all three of your partners agree to give you the putt would take longer than you knocking it in.
If the interface automatically gave you all putts within, say two feet, the game would become kind of cheapened, since every time you hit one stiff, it would automatically give it to you. That would cheapen the experience of tapping in those birdies.
And anyway, it's a virtual golf tour, and we're playing on the toughest courses on the world. Putt 'em out in my opinion.
