To clarify - a HIO is required - from the Tee - Merion #1. It is 284 yds, so it is not too far. Yes it is a difficult shot - and I fully expect we not get anyone to hole out from there - which is why I have stipulated prizes for CTTH.
As Scott says - a fantastic way to use up all those rubbish balls that accumulate.
I have no idea where people got the idea that they needed to shoot from the bunker - I only mentioned the bunker in explaining why it is difficult to get the HIO. The bunker 'guards the green' meaning that it stops you landing short of the green and rolling up close to the pin..
To make sure we are all on the same page - I provide a sample replay....
Here is my best effort so far
- it may give people an idea of how to get close. Finished 8.2 ft from the hole. But don't forget if you are lodging an entry to the CTTH comp - to include your screenshot of the green position showing the distance to the pin.
I never said it was easy!
