To me, there always is and always will be room for argument (given the true meaning of the term, which is reasoned discussion as opposed to fighting) and I will always acquiesce to the better argument.

In any western democracy the real debate should be how much socialism, and how much free market is good. We all accept both should happen, unless real extreme.

In old money my views are a little right (conservative), and plenty of arguments from the left for healthy good ground debate.

Yep reasoned argument is the key, and so flippin hard to even stick to that :)

Anyway VUSO time, and good luck to all that try:)

In my experience the most important beliefs a person holds to be true cannot be argued with and expect ANY degree of success.  my nickle.

ps: "arguable, for which good, if not necessarily convincing, reasons may be found / open to doubt.  arguably not certainly, but reasonably held to be.

argue.  to apply reason to (a problem), / to maintain (an opinion) / to persuade by talk, / to be a sign of, to prove, / to dispute / to wrangle.

argument. a reason put forward (for or against something) / a chain of reasoning. / a discussion, debate. / a dispute. / a wrangling, / a summary of the contents of a book.

argumentation, the mental process of constructing a chain of reasoning / its expression in words or writing / discussion.

argumentative excessively fond of arguing or raising objections"

If the most important beliefs a person holds to be true can't be supported by sound argument and evidence, the person should probably re-examine those beliefs.

A friend of mine said "you can be as right as you want, it will never trump ignorance". Harsh but true. If a person puts that much "blind faith" in something, or is that emotionally connected to it, no amount of logic or evidence will lead to a re-think on it.

I will now defer to your presidential primaries...lol

I agree...note that I said should re-examine them...doesn't mean they will re-examine them.  Thus the persistence of superstition, prejudice, and other unreasonable beliefs.

Yeah...when beliefs are based solely on what your mum says (just for example), then it's time to look more objectively in my book.

If I said here is a book about being gay what would most think?  If I then said that book was written in 1905 most might change the possibilities.  Somehow too many think that something translated and ancient is fine to read in modern context.  Some strange understandings can come out of that, and that's before basing a whole movement on a sentence lifted.  But we have precisely that with all the takes.....................

Each to their own and no harm done to the greater good provided people are not going to war over it.  Sadly as a race we can't manage that very well for very long.
