    Forgot to mention:

From what I understand these gd can codes can be done 100 different ways. I do believe Switz71 has nailed it for sure.

But if you see something different - throw it all up in here please.

    Americans or anyones of course.

Thanks very much - This has solved a BIG problem for me:  YANCY

    YancyCan:

Since this could be a BIG problem for our man Yancy I did some additional research and found this on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency web site.

Note the last bullet below states "the year must appear first" if included.

That would make the Best Before date BB/MA11OC12   12:23

    12 October 2011

a year earlier than the grocer informed Switz71.

    Canadian Food Inspection Agency:

How a "best before" date is shown on a label

    • The "best before" date must be identified using the words "best before" and "meilleur avant" grouped together with the date, unless a clear explanation of the significance of the "best before" date appears elsewhere on the label.
    • The "best before" date may appear anywhere on the package.
    • If it is placed on the bottom, this has to be indicated elsewhere on the label.
    • The month must be in both official languages or indicated by using specified bilingual symbols.
    • The year is optional, unless it is needed for the sake of clarity (for example, if the shelf life extends into a new calendar year).
    • If included, the year must appear first, followed by the month, then the day.

Great post Andyson, knew we could count on you for the researchables. I just hope my misinformed information didn't cost Yancy in anyway.

I'm thinking now though I may need an additional trip down to grocery mart and have a look see, to find out if she's selling any expired product LOL

Thanks for the helps. I cannot thanks enough. I did work on this myself for like 36 hours before my call for help.

This said can is supposed to be from the year 2001.

So - using either reply I think we now know this is NOT the case.

Much of the researchins and such I read said these dates can be very vague or differ from one another and whatnots. But - I do not see any combo that could prove this can is about 10 years old.

If there is any further discoverables - I would be most interested in analyzing em and such.

    Regards, Yancy
