If they have a 9 hole CTTH they must have the whole  9 hole course, please correct me if I am mistaken.

l cant find it but can somebody send this guy the link to what it takes to put a new course together on here.

The hundreds of thousands of photographs, green mapping helicopter/aerial shots, and the hundreds of thousands of dollars it takes.

l dont this guy has any idea really!!

Granted, I have only been here since November... And granted, I am only a tour pro...  But I *have* been programming for over 20 years.

If a new course takes 400 person-hours to program (just a random number), maybe they take 10 of those hours, perfect a couple shots on the new course, and whet our appetites while they finish the other 390 hours?

I BOO that you added Pinehurst #2, Koele, Manele, Pebble Beach, Wolf Creek, and Edgewwod Tahoe as Blitz or CTTH only!!!!!!

Other than PH #2 (which is brand-new), the rest of these are "water-heavy" or have mini Grand Canyons in the course, right?  That might make the mapping of the courses a smidge more difficult.

    Just my 2 ¢

They do exactly that with the CTTH. Instead of just 2 holes you get to see 9. Don't take that CTTH lightly if you want to do some early learning. Those are the same pins you'll be seeing in the full stroke version.

Incidentally, WGT is giving 2000 credits to the 156 qualifiers this year. This is a head start on learning the course.

No. The CTTH's that have stroke play courses available are invaluable learning aids for actual shots you see playing stroke.  :-)

I pulled those numbers out of my wazoo, I really didn't feel like looking up the EXACT numbers.  I *DO* have an idea, thank you very much.

YankeeJim, *I* certainly don't take them lightly; the better I get my approach shots, the less of a toll my atrocious putting takes on my score!! :)

I agree with you about most of the CTTH courses.  But most of the ones the OP was complaining about have plenty of water and deep gullies.  Thinking about Wolf Creek, in particular.

To create one of these HD courses they must take pictures practically from every spot on the course in a 360 degree direction, before any "programming" can be started.

"WGT starts the process of game development by taking thousands of high definition photos of actual golf courses using helicopters equipped with cameras[12] and GPS tracking systems.[8][13] WGT then textures the photographs onto the 3D environment, [1] using Adobe Premiere Pro to determine how each of the different surfaces will have an effect on the ball. The terrain is within 1-1.5 inch vertical accuracy of the real world"

I think what gets missed here is the evolution of the game, especially for newer players. WGT was all CTTH in the beginning. Those comps require a fraction of the number of photographs needed to pull off the full play version, something like 300-400 vs the thousands used now- and are considerably cheaper to produce. That's also why the Open course comes out as a  CTTH first-it's an easy preview of coming attractions.

Thanks b0gey and Jim, for your civil replies.  You filled in all the details of the point I was trying to get across. (Unlike the inDUHvidual who only seems capable of insults.)

The Wiki entry brings up a question, though.  It says the pictures are taken "using helicopters equipped with cameras".  What about all the ground-level pictures?  Are those taken by people, or cameras hanging below the helicopters?  Seems pretty low to be hovering that close! :)
