I actually have the bronze accuracy award. How can I get a better one?

Do I have to be nearer to the hole or is it just the number of goog shots?

You need to hit multiple shots within 20 feet of the hole and on the green to get better awards.  You can get all the details in the FAQs:  http://www.wgt.com/help.aspx

Can you get the long drive award if you hit it further than 250 yards but it goes in the rough?
