407 here and what a shot it was. Maybe a bit lucky also. Hole 16 SA.

Hi skccvb, though you didn’t get the 400 yard award, that’s a cracking shot. The 17th on St Andrews is no easy hole and you had a 17 MPH wind in your face.

Hi skccvb, reference your comment on by shot being through the green. Have you never over hit a ball? And for your information, the two to three yards around a green are classed as fairway and are cut as fairway that is why the game gives you the shot as being on the fairway. As for your shot on the 17th at St Andrews, if it had gone the extra 4 yards would you have accepted it as a 400 yards drive? Having played the old course at St Andrews, I can assure you that bouncing out of the heavy rough is very unlikely, never mind three bounces before hitting the fairway. Please don’t take this as a gripe; it’s just a comment and an observation.

One of the first expressions I ever heard playing golf was 'there is no fairway on a Par 3", which is an easy way of stopping your partners asking for a free drop when they miss the green.

But on any other hole, any cut grass is always classified as fairway, whether it be behind in front of, or to the side of the green.

I hit a 411 yard drive in real life a few years ago when I was 17. Does that count?
