  I may be wrong but what does happen is    
  - ANY time you start using the last ball of ANY sleeve (ball1,4,7,10 ect) it will say that you are now on your last ball and prompt you to buy more.   
  - ANY time you are about to take the last hit on the last ball of ANY sleeve (ball1,4,7,10 ect) it will tell you that this is the last hit and prompt you to buy more. At this point if you don’t buy more and it’s ball1 it switches to starter balls and if it’s ball 4,7,10 ect it will start the next sleeve.

  To answer that question...no, it doesn't.  It takes one from current inventory.  I've been so used to the flash version that when it shows I'm down to my last one, I buy some.  I guess it's still in that mode of counting three?????  and then saying last one .. buy more.
