TYVM, SP, I am most humbly honored.

    Doc :)

    My pleasure Doc.

    YaHoo it's April 27

1791 - Samuel Morse ~ Inventor of the telegraph and Morse Code...slightly important

1822 - Ulysses S Grant ~ Known as Sam, became our 18th President mostly by virtue of his excellent leadership as Union General during the Civil War. It took President Lincoln several tries to find a serious General suited to win the war and keep America as one union. He found the right guy in Grant. A leader who would totally "fight" He was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio.

1896 - Rogers Hornsby ~ The early, excellent 2nd basesman of the St. Louis Cardinals.A serious baseball card to own.

1899 - Leo Diegel ~ The two time PGA Champion born in Detroit.

What ? 2 days 'til May Day ? Groovy

    April 28

32 - Marcus Salviis Otho ~ Emperor of Rome ( Holy Mackerel !. But not a very famous one)

1442 - Edward IV ~ House of Lancaster and York ~ King of England

A cursory look at English royal history might lead one to believe that Edward IV was just another player in the Wars of the Roses, a pawn like his predecessor, Henry VI, or a power broker who had his brief period of supremacy. But Edward IV was much more than that. Altogether, he ruled for more than 20 years, and over the course of his two reigns he emerged as a strong, skilled, and sagacious King.

1758 - James Monroe ~ 5th President of the United States, last of the Jeffersonians.

1878 - Lionel Barrymore ~ By far the best of this iconic family of actors.

1863 - William Randolph Hearst ~ Newspaper magnate, owner, builder of "The Hearst Castle" up north near San Luis Obispo...a must visit if in California

Very nice addition Zio. History has many tragic events that are un-necessary and confusing... Out of step with life and living.

1235 - Phillip III ~ King of France, somewhat obscure

1662 - Mary II ~ House of Stuart ~ Queen of England

                            Co-Ruler with William III

William III & Mary II came to power in the Glorious Revolution, a bloodless Protestant coup against the determinedly Catholic James II; their accession as co-rulers ensured that England would remain a Protestant nation. Though Mary was much loved, William, who functioned as ruler before and after Mary's death, lacked personal charm and met with a great deal of criticism. Regardless, the two of them ensured stability and continuity at a crucial time. They are the same William and Mary who have a college in Williamsburg, VA in their names...the college that Thomas Jefferson attended.

    1877 - Alice B. Toklas ~ Gertrude Stein's lover girl.
