    I agree Mark.  Well done figuring out the regression factor and avoiding the obvious trap left in the sequence.

    Yep, I'm on board with 3 = 6 , which would follow the gap left by 4 =12. Do we have to show our work ?

    IDK about making assumptions about the missing 4, that 6 looks pretty good BUT there could be a solid  argument made for 9 or 12.

    The multiplier on the first column reduces by 1 each line to end with 3 x 3 OR the subtrahend in the second column is even numbers working backwards to end with 20 - 8.

    The answer is based on an assumption that there should be a line 4. There isn't in the problem. Where do you draw that assumption line when solving math problems?

    YJ, I guess it's an if/then proposition.  If all the other statements are true, then the statement for 3 must be true...a case where math and logic intersect.
