Henry VI inherited the thrones of England and France while still an infant. It would have taken a strong-willed, politically savvy ruler to fill the shoes of his storied father, and Henry was not that man. More interested in faith and learning than in war and governance, and given to bouts of debilitating mental illness, he became little more than a pawn among the machinations that exploded into the Wars of the Roses.
