1917 - "Buffalo" Bob Smith of the Howdy Doody Show

Now where would the professor be without Buffalo Bob.  Howdy Doody, GOP!

    27 November ...

And the greatest basketball play by play announcer to ever grace the airwaves ... Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn was born on 27 November back in 1916.  When I'd come to Cali to visit and the Lakers were playing on National TV, the TV was muted and the radio was turned on to hear Chick call the game.  Fun times!

My uncle had season seats at the Forum when I was little.  I think I was 5 the first time uncle Rich took me to a Laker game ... we got to the game early ... Chick was doing his pre-game show, then left the booth, walked over and introduced himself to me.  A few month's later, I went back to the Forum to watch a game ... and Chick saw me in the seat and said, "Hi Kat!" ... I'll never forget that!  I love and miss you Chick ... you'll always be in my memories!

Here's some memorable calls from him ...

    Pre-me guitarist, Jimi Hendrix (1942 - 1970) was born on 27 November ...

Myles Kennedy is 45 today ...

Also born on the 27th, the writer of Elvis Presley's 50th gold record and a few hits of his own too.  Eddie Rabbit (1941 - 1998) ...

and one he took to gold ...

An amazing concert violinist ... Hilary Hahn is 35 today ...

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    OMG! It's Howdy Doody time!

    Thanks Lily and Kat!

And Kat, I watched the whole highlight video of Chick and thought how fortunate L.A was. to have had two HOFers, Chick Hearn AND Vin Scully, as the long time announcers of their major sports teams.

There were some amazing play-by-play radio sports announcers.  Sadly they are now an endangered species.

My uncle says "Johnny Most" was pretty amazing too.  He was just in the wrong city.  And Chicago had a pretty amazing play-by-play ... ever hear of Harry Caray?

Yeah, I think so.  Wasn't he the announcer Will Ferrell made famous?  ;-)

Seriously, before coming to Chicago and doing 25 years of White Sox and Cubs broadcasts he was already well known for 25 years of St. Louis Cardinal baseball broadcasts.  (That was pre-Kat though.)

I can only imagine Caray doing basketball broadcasts....."Jordan puts up a three.....It might be ... it could be ... Hey!!.... If you were a hot dog and starving to death......."

    28 November ...

Speaking of Chick Hearn and Vin Scully

Today is one of the great baseball play-by-play announcers of all time ... he's not traveling with them boys in blue anymore, but he's still allowing listeners to "watch" the game on the radio during home games.

    Vin Scully is 87 today!

And if you ever go to a Lakers game ... you just may see this guy ...

Singer Randy Newman is 71 today ...

(how ironic! talk about the greatest play-by-play announcers and Randy Newman pops up!  lol)

    Have a great weekend everyone!
