  ding is the sound you hear when you hit meter on the sweet spot.

  I once heard the word used when I stopped at a gas station in Virginia. I thought I'd check on the tires so got the air hose and plugged it in. I couldn't feel the hose pumping and was wondering why.

  A helpful man looked at it and said: "You don't need no air when it don't ding no more"

  Try imagining it on a gas station on I95 in a Virginian drawl.

  Really confused me till he pointed to the gage and explained: "Ding, ding"

  sometimes preceeded by "ring" or "wing" or ending with "a-ling"  "bat" or "dong" (not to be confused with the Ho Ho which more resembles Little Debbie's Swiss Cake Roll)
