    Hi,

i wanted to update my equipment with wedges because Imdoing my greatest faults with distances between 30 and 100 yards. So my thoughts were: "the higher the ball, the shorter the distance."

    So I bought
    52W - TaylorMade ATV 52° Wedge, with a distance of 105
    56W - MAX Spin 56 Wedge, with a distance of 90
    60W - PING Gorge 60 Wedge - with a distance of 75

After some playing i recognized that i bought them double and only need one of them. They all doing nearly the same.

    Now the problem:

I have the problem on distances about 15- 30 yards. The smallest club i have is the PING Gorge. When the ball lies in the sand about 20 yds from the hole i can choose between the ATV (105), Spin (90) and Gorge (75). Aren`t there any clubs with a max distance of 30 or 50 yards? Or can i alter a club like the putter with 15,30,60 and 100?

Shall I buy another Wedge? How many Wedges are good to play with? I have no hybrid and did not need them really. What are your thoughts of it?

I prefer 3 wedges with increments of 25 yds.  I have a 50 yd ATV, 75 yd ATV and 100 yd Cleveland.  PW goes 120.  With these increments punch shots are between clubs and I use punches regularly.  With punch shots  I have increments of 41,50,62,75,84 and 100.  Inside of 35 yds or so use a combination of flops, half-clubs, pitches etc.  The 75 yd club being your shortest I can see your difficulty with the distances you describe.  Good luck!  Ben

Get a decent 64 deg wedge.  You can get them with 50 or 60-yd ratings.  I use it much more than I ever used a 52 wedge, since the 52 is close to the PW in distance (but not spin).

Never needed a hybrid but I do use the 3W often, given my other clubs and tee locations.

Definitely learn the punch shot - it is very useful close in to the greens.

Trade in your 52W for a 64W OR replace our 3W with the 64W. You don't really need a 3W that much until you get to Legend and a 4th wedge-especially that 64W- will give you all the coverage you need provided you use all 5 shots with them-pitch, punch, flop, chip and full.

Even if you don't go with 4 wedges, that 64W should be the first one in the bag.  :-)

    Hallo Landsmann!

There are 64° wedges of 50 and 60 yds ATV, Cleveland, Max, and there are shorter "scales" of each club, facilitated by shot variants - punch, flop, pitch and chip. The lack of such tool made the Gorge almost useless a few years ago :(

You might do yourself a favor by buying a 50 yds wedge, say, the L39 ATV and keep 50, 75, 105 yds (including the punch shots). The PW of the iron set is the fourth wedge. Some play with five but it leaves big gaps in the upper department!

For sand shots, full or punch are preferred, though some play flops.

    Hab Spaß hier!

Those gaps only come into play from the back tees. A decent driver and 4 wedges is all you need until you get to Legend.

Wedges with distances of 100, 80, and 60 yards are all thats needed, if you learn all the other shots.  The use of every shot from full to lob, and utilizing top and back spin, they will be your best friends, with no gaps, in yardages.

Add the (ATV) option of 100, 75 and 50 yds - in my imagination a tad better in the short range.

And I've seen a few odd mixed sets which take advantage of a 105 yds SW. It's up to individual research to find an optimum spacing.

Many thanks to all the answers. You helped me a lot.

When i read all answers, the best choice to me is to sell the 56W - MAX Spin 56 Wedge, with a distance of 90 and buy the TaylorMade ATV 64° Wedge, with a distance of 50.

    I then will have 3 wedges: 105, 75, 50

I liked the MAX Spin Wedge. It was the first club to me were the ball came back to me with a full backspin. I can´t use 4 wedges (apart from the wedge included in the iron set) because I need the 3W club. My iron set isnt that good that the lowest iron could make the distance of a wooden club.

This is an excellent move. Learn the punch shot with them and you can cut those gaps in half. A 64W pitch is very accurate and manageable and would be a great shot to learn. The back side of BPB#4 is perfect for that. GL with your new toys.  ;-)
