Words I gave were spurned,by higher minded folk
I think they thought I ought of never spoke
Still inside I know, what they missed they'll rue
For I learned it all from learned men like you

Yet the fact remains, and ever will it smart
That what was said in faith, was disliked at the start
Wherever now to hide,my shame at my mistake
For words can not now salve, nor save me of my fate

Rich my finest ramble, cash unto my bank
And now I see the depths,to which I sudden sank
Cast then I should be,where others need not look
Far a yonder then, this place I should be took

Perhaps I find another, one who too was sent
Out there in the meadow, mid many putters bent
And others hid by falsehoods that they careless uttered
Mainly lies to cover shots, blamed on meters stuttered

And in this place where seldom seen is other
I shall ramble on,gibberish as my secret cover
Far from humours ill,and straight laced people dull
Enjoy the peace, and so continue a life thats full

No offence, and lovely words, but shouldn't it be "ought have" ?

Well Yes Juan, properly it should have been "Ought to have",and believe me I pondered most awful over that yet came down with "0f" as it scanned rather more swimmingly. But what do I know,I'm stuck in a field way out yonder...

While you're at it, look up PG Wodehouse's short stories on golf, most illuminating...
