Try FireFox with the add-on Memory Fox (continuously cleans RAM). I had a huge problem with meter and browsers in the past (since the June 2015 update last year) and it solved all my issues. Got many friends using same thing.
One of the worst Memory Hogs (for me anyways) is Maxthon which could easily soar above 800, 000 KB in only a few holes. Firefox w/ Memory Fox always keeps me in the 60,000 K to 320,000 K range (and resets lower once it hits the 300+ range).
So find a browser that continuously keeps your memory usage low. The above is a good place to start.
