I beleive there was a time where you couldn't buy 275yd drivers or good irons - everybody played with starters. How far? well the good players got unbelivably far.
I'm pretty sure i saw in another older post that the legend of all legends Tibbets once shot something like a 61 or 62 with all starter clubs in a qualifying round for some major tournament...under the hardest conditions possible at the time...but he more resembled Yoda or The Terminator...i'm not sure what the best mortals have done with free equipment.
If I remember right, I posted 66 on BP off legends tees with those basic clubs + 225 driver I think.
It takes alot of practice but it's possible.

Tibets and Avatar Lee were by far the 2 best starter club players. :)
I got 272 with 19 wind behind me and very good bounce.
291 with a 19mph behind me with a starter driver at St Andrews... oh did I mention I got a lucky bounce of the cart path? lol
I made it too Tour Master With Starter clubs..
314 yards, 21 mph wind at the back with my starters 225 yard driver. Of course you know where that was at. I have never played a full 18 holes with starter clubs though. But, my best score on a 9 hole was at Kiawah for a -4 or -3, can't remember.
