Don't go long on the 18th at Pinehurst.

I landed six yards long. I putted gently back and it went 20ft downhill past the hole. I ended up with a double bogey. Not a nice finish.

Best to knock a few yards off the stated distance. That course drives me nuts.

What a finishing hole! Should be fun watching the Open knowing how the greens are. After monkeying around with different ways to get close, the best I found so far is to use a shot where you can hit full and use top spin, even into winds. The up slope keeps it from running through. (Not using Velcro balls.)

Thought you were suppose to use TS in a headwind, to keep it low

    Isn't that what YJ said?

To clarify what I meant-use a shot where the landing has forward roll on it and climb the slope to the pin. Top spin does this and when using it with tail winds you would need to club down and hit one where the max distance is less than the distance to pin.

For instance, 150 out with a head wind and an uphill landing-try an 8i with top spin (7i in harder winds, maybe choked.) You know hitting 150 into wind to that pin is going to be short because the pin is uphill and the wind's holding up the carry. The top spin gets the ball on the ground sooner and lets it roll more at the end. Worst case scenario is you're short and that's a good place to be with that pin.
