Can anyone explain this? Original game selector quits. Next hole, I can hear remaining opponent tee off, I can see hit ball travel on the little course in the bottom right, but all i can see is a putter and a pin a foot in front of the tee box.

That's definitely an unusual error and not something that has been reported before. In the future when you run into a situation where you think something is really wrong the best course of action is right-click anywhere within the game window and choose the Submit This Problem to WGT option. Provide a brief description of what happened in the box that comes up and click SEND. That will flag the shot itself along with the relevant data for the shot giving the developers a chance to look and see what happened there.
