    tiffer67:

I have taken a fairly painful and expensive path to date via the ready go competitions. If you are not confident of shooting at least -3 in 9 holes and -6 for 18 holes then be prepared to lose a lot of money.

Yeah, that's pretty much spot on.   Though the Kiawah B9 seems to be around -4.

Yeah Kiawah back 9 and St Andrews require a 32 to be anywhere in the placings. I am sad enough to have recorded my performance in 150 ready gos. My stroke average came out at -4.16 which won me 17, 286 credits, a profit of only 2,286 or 15 credits per tournament entered. This tells you all you need to know about how well you have to perform in order to be ahead of the game. The odd win helps out a lot, it took me 112 tournaments to gain one!!!

Tournaments are open to everyone.    Just to give you a view of what you need to shoot to stay ahead .... I've tracked the 500+ RG's I have played (yeah I know ... no life here).  Here are the results.

You'll note they other folks were right on as far as St. A, Kia Front and BP Back ... 34 works to stay just a touch ahead of even.   Kia back you need a 33.  For the 18 hole tourneys a 68 will keep you ahead in credits.   This is all net the entry fee --- Green ahead - Red behind.

Not making a bunch but ... hey they're fun to do.
