    If I may quibble, the hole at Bethpage 18 is highly susceptible in that daunting back right position. Despite the elevation, it plays only half a club longer than the stated distance (and that is with backspin, although it is not crucial). The front pin location, although it looks easier, can be held only if you're playing a ball with backspin. Then, it plays only slightly longer than the stated yardage, despite the elevation difference.

    Bethpage is a disaster with starter clubs.  I usually bite the bullet and just hit my 3 wood into the rough short of the green, as i trust my pitching better than i trust myself to put it close with a short iron...
