  • How to Start a Game

    23 Mar 2010

Today's game tip covers how to start a game on WGT. There are a variety of formats, and below is a summary of the different types. To start a game, click the PLAY NOW button at the left side of the screen on WGT.com.

A separate game window will launch (be sure your popup blockers are turned off), and you will see a menu of game selections on the bottom. These are the different kinds of games you can start:

    • SINGLE PLAYER > QUICK PLAY: The quick play option will normally launch a monthly challenge sweepstakes tournament that you can play with or without logging in. If you play it without logging in, your score will not be recorded. If you play it while logged in, your score will be recorded, and you will be entered into the corresponding sweepstakes tournament if you are eligible.
    • SINGLE PLAYER > SELECT A COURSE: This option allows you to choose the course to play on. Once you've selected a course, you can choose between a ranked or practice stroke play round, or a closest-to-the-hole challenge. Scores from ranked stroke play rounds count towards your average score.
    • MULTIPLAYER GAME > JOIN A GROUP: This option makes you available to join in a multiplayer game that others create. When another player creates a multiplayer game and you fit the criteria they specified, you will be invited to join.
    • MULTIPLAYER GAME > CREATE A GROUP: This option allows you to create your own multiplayer round. You can invite friends who are online from your friends list, manually type in the username of a player you'd like to invite, search for players by typing in a partial username, or invite anyone who has made themselves available to join a multiplayer game.
    • MATCH PLAY GAME > JOIN A GROUP: This option makes you available to join in a match play game other others create. When another player creates a match play game and you fit the criteria they specified, you will be invited to join.
    • MATCH PLAY GAME > CREATE A GROUP: This option allows you to create your own match play game. You can invite friends who are online from your friends list, manually type in the username of a player you'd like to invite, search for players by typing in a partial username, or invite anyone who has made themselves available to join a match play game.
    • MATCH PLAY CHALLENGE > JOIN A GROUP:  This option makes you available to join a Match Play Challenge game where you can win credits from your opponent. Not all players will be allowed to play this format based on their country/state of residence.
    • MATCH PLAY CHALLENGE > CREATE A GROUP: This option allows you to create a two-player Match Play Challenge game where you can invite another player to play for credits. Not all players are allowed to play this format based on their country/state of residence.
    • TOURNAMENTS > CHALLENGES: This option allows you to browse the available closest-to-the-hole challenges. It is organized by Score-Based, which means the lowest scorer wins, and Sweepstakes, which means the winner is determined via random drawing from the pool of eligible players in the tournament.
    • TOURNAMENTS > STROKE PLAY: This option allows you to browse the available stroke play tournaments. It is organized by Score-Based, which means the lowest scorer wins, and Sweepstakes, which means the winner is determined via random drawing from the pool of eligible players in the tournament.
    • TOURNAMENTS > READY GO: This option allows you to browse the available ready-go tournaments. You can see how many spots are left in each ready-go tournament, as well as the payout amount and the number of player who have posted a score.
