  Been playing for 6 yrs and i am still cnfused about distance, latest confusion. Short hole 216yds downhill 40ft, I hit 20yds less which makes 196yds, wind following right to left 4/6, I hit 194yds, it ends up 27yds short and a lost ball, what am I doing wrong?

  Hit a 4 iron at 9.64 power. Should be right

  First that shot should be hit around 205 not 194. Second are you sure you didn't accidentally change clubs? 

  Third how much spin did you use? 

  what hole?

  Agreed, I figure 202-203..figured deducting 13yds for the 40' downhill adjustment. and, maybe, a tad yard or so for the following wind, imho.

  But that is just me, I am not a Champion by a long shot.

  my math which isnt close to exact would be 203 in this example

  Hi mate.

   

  I’m not an amazing player but my distances are very consistent.

   

  I can’t say what’s right and wrong but I can tell you how I would play that one. 

  To the pin from your position I would be looking at 202.7 yards

   

  crosswind i would be looking at aiming 2.3-2.6 boxes over depending which club I hit 4i or 3i.

  When you aim you can change a crosswind from say 9’oclock to an 8.5 slight headwind or 9.5 slight tailwind to your shot. (Not normally on a longer iron but certainly on your wedges and you 9,8,7)

   

  looking at your ball club combo I personally would’ve hit that with full backspin (4i) at 98% or if it was a 40ft drop to an uphill sloped green I would’ve hit the 3i at 93% no backspin to allow 3/4 yards of rollout.
