  I have been away from the game for some time.  i have some free time now and waould like to start playing.  However, I can do everything, such as sign up for a tourney, but my play now buttons don<t launch a game.

  Is there new software in operation...or what?

  Yes, about two years ago WGT got away from the Flash version of the game and now you have to use the new game client. You should be able to log in with your old info so you don't lose your account info & clubs.
