Funny, a good friend of mine here has also suggested that the scores here are artificially low, which is true. BUT, if you gave a real life tour quality player ...

    • a precise swing meter with precise yardage,
    • the ability to add forward/backspin to any shot with no sidespin unless wanted,
    • a precise knowledge of the rough and sand conditions pre shot,
    • the exact windage and direction,
    • the exact elevation from any place on the course to the hole,
    • AND the exact speed of the green and the exact break of that green

      Don't forget these too ...
    • ZERO changes in air density due to elevation
    • ZERO changes in conditions due to weather or environment such as rain/dryness/mowing/aerating greens
    • ZERO changes to you own physical body
    • IDENTICAL speeds on each green for all 18 holes
    • ONLY three hole locations at most to deal with per green
    • .... this part of the list can go on forever
I *think* they would get the same scores IRL as here or better.

HAVE FUN, RELAX, and remember this is a game simulating a game!

    Mbarrettwcc:

Make no mistake -- I DO IT TOO!!!! I do it because I can, but it still feels like cheating, and I still think it should be abolished. That is my opinion, but it is based on the fact that the shot is becoming utilized with greater frequency every day in situations where you'd never dream of it on a real green.

That is it. Disagree all you want, but it is my opinion.

    Bye.

    Your original thread.......

Somewhere along the line someone figured out the wedge formula for full shots on greens, and now I can't go a day without seeing someone use it from distance. This is not standard play, it is cheating. Make no mistake -- it is CHEATING

    Talk about split personalities !

To complain so vehemently  using  the wedge on the green

then you confess doing it yourself

    Ha HaHa Ha Ha

.........Hmmm! To make it easy on readers of this thread, I suggest you read the first .....entry and then read the last entry by the same (?) individual on Page 7. and you can forego all other entries by anyone!.....You end up with the same answer, no reasonable reason to have made the orginal post......my nickle.

..........Response to supernova's cartoon entry. There is no other entry on this thread that is more on point than your cartoon! Thanks for helping to clear things up, if it were a male making your entry i'm quite sure she would come back with the sexist thing and start another un-needed argument. Thanks for the laughs, my nickle.

Even though its legal to use wedges on the green I putt, and sometimes like we all know STA has its spots. I still putt.

100 Foot putts are no biggie if you know what your doing. Practice #8 on best of putting and you wont complain about 100'

    Mbarrettwcc:
I am not a moron, people!
I'm afraid to state that you are.

Any decent person would refrain from using something that he so deeply despises, or at least stay quiet, but morons act bigot in such a way, separating their moral talk and egoistic actions.

Furthermore, having every right to the opinion that said wedging is condemnable, you and nobody else have shown any arguments confirming that it's "cheating" or "against the spirit". Nobody has questioned my arguments of "by the rules" (which you confirmed) and "no harm" or given other reason.

Must be a religious matter - go pray at your "only-putting-on-the-putting-green" church and duly offer your sacrifices!

As a matter of rule, I checked the "New Rules of Golf for 2019" and there is no rule about which club to use where. In fact, the term "putter" or "wedge" is never used even once.

    http://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/rules-modernization/golfs-new-rules.html

There may be a few local rules to consider for some clubs, and if you damage a green IRL you may get booted, but I don't see this as being illegal. It is a skill, and IMHO, you can't duff a putter, so why take the chance : )

PS - in real life, while putting, I use only my right hand, have so for 10 years or more. To practice, given the arm action and stroke needed, I sometimes use a wedge or even a 9-iron  to putt edge on for a precision drill. I don't loft the ball at all but thought I'd share anyway.

    Cheers!

Personally i don't use wedges on the greens as i feel putting gives me a better chance of holing it. Nothing against people who do use it and it's definitely not cheating. As they say "it's not how, it's how many"
