Looking at the July Bethpage 18 hole tourney credits being distributed.

At the moment due to ties:

    Scoring 66          Receiving 65 credits

    Scoring 67          Receiving 32 credits

    Scoring 68          Receiving 36 credits

    Scoring 69          Receiving 71 credits

    Scoring 70          Receiving 43 credits

I was at a 69 and wished I had just left it there as now I'm only getting 36 credits instead of 71. Maybe waiting until near the end of a tourney & shooting for the score with the least ties is the way to go?  Even scoring par I would be getting more credits than I would now.  Just seems a little odd to me to do better & get less.  Couldn't they work it so if you get under par they could ignore the ties? Being that this tourney cost $5 to get in I thought the payout would be better but it seems only if you get the top score you get your moneys worth. I probably wouldn't do this again unless it was for charity.

Just curious, how did you get those figures?  The reason I ask is that the overall payout for this tournament is 15000 credits.  If you look at the payout percentages, the tie for 22nd place, for instance runs between 22 and 27th place.  The numbers I got for the percetage payouts were 168 for 22nd (15000 times 1.12%), 156 for 23rd (15000 times 1.04%), 144 for 24th (15000 times .96%), 132 for 25th (15000 times .88%), 120 for 26th (15000 times .80 %, and 115.5 for 17th (15000 times .77%).  As per the rules they are added up and averaged, yielding an average payout of 139.25.  The payout for 28th place (if it were by itself) would be 111 (15000 times .74%).

Oops, yeah sorry, it's based on 35000, not 15000.  At any rate, the payout for a tie for 22nd is going to be higher than 28th place was my point.

*edit* change those figures above to 392, 364, 336, 308, 280, and 269.5 for 22nd through 27th place respectively for an average payout of 324.92.  28th place(by iteself) would pay 259.

    I adjusted the totals above.

I don't understand, you are in a tie for 36th with your score of 68, which runs 36th through 40th place.  The average of what you'll get is better than what a score 69 would get, which is an average of 41st and 42nd place currently.

    Does that make sense now?

So the 2 people in 41 place are getting more credits because theres only 2 of them splitting those credits. I'm seeing 71 each for them and only 36 for me because of 5 people splitting credits. Am I figuring this wrong?

No the 2 people tied for 41st are getting less because the payout percentages for 41st and 42nd place are lower than the payout percentages for 36th-40th place.

    36th-.515%

    37th-.490%

    38th-.470%

    39th-.450%

    40th-.430%

Add those up and average over 5 places for a total of .471%.

    41st-.410%

    42nd-.390%

Add those up and average over 2 places and you get a total of .40%.

So you can see that even if there weren't a tie for 41st place, the payout would be smaller for 41st than the average of 36th-40th.

And yes, your totals aren't right.  The payout is 35000, so .471% of 35000 is 165 roughly.  That's 165 each.  41st and 42nd place get .40%, so 35000 times .40% equals 140 each.  The averaging has already been done to calculate, so I'm guessing you were averaging that final number again?

yes you're figuring it worng the 5 folks tied for 36th would receive 165 credits and the ones tied for 41st will get 140.
