Something I did recently discover. I tried to build a Ryzen machine using r5-5500 and a proper Mb. Don't try this without the Mb already having the video card driver on it. The 5500 has no onboard graphics it won't display anything, even the bios. Unlike intel, will at least use a vga driver to get you started.
I know Gary. Amd's series with integrated graphics is G series. I am building a system with B550 mobo and a 5600. As for a GPU i hold the one i have right now ( a 570 RX). If and when the prices become serious, i will try to get a 3060 TI or a 6700 amd.
As for the vga driver you are referring too, there are mobos with vga driver on and others not. I go with msi which has enabled that function even if you don't use a GPU (which i will).
All but 1 mb in this house are msi's, That one is a gigabyte. Had trouble with 2, both msi's, check to see if you need to flash the bios at startup, 1 of them I had to do to get it running.
It's possible the 5500 I have is bad, as it would not even turn on a 7770 hd card, and this was a working card, same machine, different mb and cpu, but now having all new drives installed. When I switched to a 4600g all was well, after loading the correct driver for the card.
So I hope you don't run into troubles with the msi 550 and the 5600
The one I had to flash was a b450 pro max board, a different b450 pro-m2 max I didn't have to. That one I stuck a ryzen 3 3200g in it.
3 of 4 have gpu's 1060,1030 both nvidia and the amd 7770 hd
