TIPS how I got to pos 51 from pos 230 yesterday in Bali sweepstakes
    29 Jun 2009 at 4:59 PM

Finally a round with a good average without a disaster - but before that I had several ones with similar level but for one or two bunker or rough hits. It is really exciting that it is possible to improve so much with some attention on it - I started WGT on June 20.

Over 100 pts improvement improvement in one day after I

    • changed to a mouse with less sensitive buttons. the old one repeatedly caused accidents from inadverently clicking it at the wrong moment.
    • precisely standardised the way I hold the mouse - with two hands to prevent inadverent effects. Also
    • excercised precision "soft spot" hitting with great result after also
    • maximizing attention - took this part to easy before and realized that great focus on hitting in the right moment pays off - I like to enjoy and relax while I play, but at this moment there is no way around maximum concentration - it made a greater difference than I expected. Hitting relaxed gave much more uneven results - sometimes perfect hit and sometimes a great deviation in either direction.
    • Put more attention to learn about the degree of wind influence- This significantly helped to get closer to the hole.
    • Have kept notes over the clubs and %hitting power wind and result at every hole. Helped a lot to choose the right clubs and how hard to hit.

Also watching the Youtube WGT instruction videos helped a lot (search wgt+golf). I realized I dont have to move the swing cursor back to the swingmeter - which I believed was necessary. This gave more time to focus on the movement of the swing which helped a  lot.

Very evidently the starter set  driver is a handicap. It does not yield 225 yards as promised, so even when I hit the sweet spot, repeteadely I dont reach the green at the hole with longest driving distance (is it 4?) unless the wind comes from behind.

It is inspiring to find that among the top 10 in this contest, several dont have better driving accuracy and GIR% averages than I have. So hopefully i can advance... with a little bit of luck and if the learning curve continues to go upward.

Hole in One - from the bunker
    27 Jun 2009 at 3:35 PM

What a good feeling! But alas -the happines did not last long as 2 holes later I hit the water after making a slight slice on hole 8 and got over 100 minus points.

Now that I am making notes of how I played the holes, and no trial and error, the results are improving significantly. Also hitting accuracy is still improving and that is encouraging. It is nice that the game is so precise rewarding you in accord with your progress.

    Really great fun

Still in the steep part of learning curve after having done 18 holes on Bethpage and a few last hole plays. It would have been good if there were a lawn for training putting. It is great that this game responds so precisely to ones errors and successes and that ones experience from real golf is useful here.

    This game is really amusing.

    "Gear"

    Hi,

Thanks for the good advice concerning the clubs but i bought Taylor Made set a week ago. I should have checked the differences between Ping and Taylor Made clubs a little bit more but now i am stuck with these :). I use starter set when i am playing closest to the hole and in stroke play i change back to Taylor Made clubs. But Ping clubs are little bit better. Maybe i will change my gear AGAIN in the future.

    All the best

    Timo

    "Driver"

    Tere,

    Timo
