Since going to Master late last year I have struggled but lately it seems my game has turned around. I seem to be hitting more fairways, putting more iron shots closer and more putts were dropping. Had I turned a corner? I don't know but I was feeling good about myself and enjoying more rounds in the negative numbers. So today I logged into WGT for some quick Match Play games. I find a game and it's against a Master with an average of 60 and a name I recognized from leaderboards and career earnings lists. "Hmm, always wondered how well I would play against someone like that". All I can say is......damn. Talk about being out of my league! I knew I was in trouble when on the second hole (Par 5) I thought I was in good shape sitting 2 feet away from a birdie putt when I get a 26 foot Eagle putt dropped on me. Believe me, it got no better from there. This gal one putted every green and the only hole I won was only because they actually let one shot away from them. Very impressive and humbling. It really showed the work I need to do in order to get to that level. Don't know if I'll ever get there but it was damn impressive to watch. The cool thing was this player knew how good they were but was never arrogant about it. Just very methodically went about the task of destroying me and my self esteem in 5 short holes :)

    Glove,

Had a very similar experience a few weeks ago.  After turning master and tired of practicing over and over I decided to try a match play challenge.  First guy that came up was in the low 60’s, he accepted and I bet gave him a measly 100 credits to let it not be a complete waste of his time.  After he knocked it about 2 inches from the cup on the first hole, I told him this won’t take long and I was right.  I think I did manage to get a half, but like you it was a very short game.  I didn’t recognize his name then, but now I see him all over the place.  He sat patiently while my game blew up, making doubles and triples and just told me he was playing really good that day.  The best part was, he invited me to be a friend, so I have that going for me, though I don’t think I will bother him until I get a lot better.  Super nice guy and it was great to watch these really good players do their thing.  I have a lot of practicing to do.

    cheers

You're too kind Gberg ;).. I have the motivation of finishing off these MP points once and for all. If I can be a good player anyone can, that should be comforting message to all the frustrated bitter bunch out there.

When lesser players think this way it goes against the main goal here-having fun and getting better. You are not a bother wanting to play with someone better than you. You should make this a habit, playing with better players-you will improve, especially if you ask questions. A master that thinks he/she is above playing a lesser player is not a master, just a pretender. True masters will share the wealth of their experience and talent with others.

I really hope you took this post as it was intended, as a light hearted jab at myself as well as a show of respect for you.  I didn't bother me one bit to lose to you and you sure as hell won't see me whining on the forums, "She was using some super secret cheat code / ding-the-meter-every-time program".  For me it was impressive to watch and something to work towards even if I never get to that level.  Maybe next time I can make it to 6 holes ;)

Jim, you may not know it but there were a few things I picked up from you when we played a couple weeks back that have helped me and I do appreciate it.  I'm not at your level but I feel like I do try to help out people when I play.  I wish we could spread some of your attitude around.

    QFT ....

Brilliantly put YJ...  Your entire response to the OP should be required reading for all new players and most of the older ones, too.  Well done.

Thanks Jim for the advice.  It just can be a tad embarrassing taking 5 or 6 shots to make the green and my opponent is waiting.  But like I said he was great and I really enjoyed playing against him.  I am finally sometimes able to score below par again after weeks of working on it, I am thinking I can start venturing out to deeper waters.  Hope to run into you some time.

    cheers
