The golf blogger at USA Today just rated The Ocean Course as the 6th Best Public Course in the U.S.

If you are near Charleston, SC it is a must play, along with the other 4 courses on the island.  You will find that the course is very unique, no cart paths, you drive the fairways, all the bunkers, well 90% of them are basically just dunes that are dug out with natural sand, very firm but playable.  Fairways are very generous but don't miss them or you will pay the price.  Green are very quick (except in the summer when the heat makes it impossible to cut them low enough) and the fairways firm and great to play from.  When you finish you generally find that you have a few ounces of Kiawah sand on you, in your shoes, in your ball, etc. which makes the ride home or to your hotel a little uncomfortable but worth it.  Great bargins can be found in the afternoons during the summer and replays are normally available for cart fees only.
