Holy Mackeral. The master tier is killing me.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. I like the challenge. I am just struggling.  I got to master in a few weeks and had my average down to around 65 as a pro. I'm now up to a 71.15. Yikes. +6 strokes in 4 days.

Is it just me or once you are in the master tier, this is a whole new game?

If any of you masters have tips for a fellow struggling master, I would love to hear them. The way I'm playing I even hate to use the term master. (I'm playing like a hack!)

Back to the tees and work this out! Cheers!

The tees definitely don't play the same, so if you are still using your exact same club setup, of course the courses are going to play much harder.

There is a big difference from the pro tees to the master tees.  I would say its up to a three shot difference at Bethpage and five shots at Kiawah.  Par 5's are no longer easily reachable.  Par 3's require much more accurate shots.  Now give yourself a little time to get accustomed to the bounces, approaches, and tee shots.  It will take a lot of practice but your scores can be just as low.  Just look at the top dogs.  I will also suggest playing rounds with better players to see how they do it.  If your not on the ladder you should join because it will give you an opportunity to play with some really great players.

Happens to just about everyone buddy.

The only advice I could give you is to keep practising. Your average will come back down eventually, but it will take a while.

Mine shot up about 6 strokes in one day...I feel your pain..

Now i bounce between 68 and 73 on the old avg...most of that is from my inability to time my meter, or I miss that must make put..But IM having way more fun  from the backs...this really is a cool game

My average has moved from 65 to 71 since I moved up.  I don't play as much in stroke play since Match Play was put in and it shows.  It is difficult to get used to the new landing areas, etc. but it is more challenging as well.

This thread should be required reading for every one of the people rushing to make Master with unposted rounds, restarts and threads asking 'what lvl to make master?!?!'

If played right, you will get there when you're able to get there.. (and some of us havent' gotten there yet and are not really disturbed by it.... yet.)

    Good point Snaike. I agree.

I just played normal and ended getting promoted to master. Honestly though, when I was promoted I was surprised and didnt really want it, because I know that I was not ready to compete in that tier. I really wished I could have remained at Pro and played in Pro tournaments for a while.

Based on my current skill level it is going to be quite a while before I am competetive in tournaments. I don't see getting into the top 70 anytime soon.

Well, with that said, now that I am there, I am enjoying the extra challenge and am still loving the game.

Before, I couldn't wait to make master, now I'm having second thoughts after reading this thread.
