I had 14 yds to the pin from the fringe.  I hit my chip shot (suppose to go 13yds max) at about half swing so it would roll.  I figure half swing will take it at least 6 yards or so.  Nope.  It went about 2 feet like I muffed it or something.  I saved the replay and it is pretty much crap.  I know it is still beta, but things like these are the reason I will not spend any money on this game yet.

I only use the AW for chipping (it goes around 13 yards with max swing and flat green).

I used to think chipping sucked too, but chipping is my shot of choice for anything inside of 14 yards (depending on how far away the green is from where I'm shooting).   I also avoid doing exactly what you described with chipping.   The better play is dropping down a club so you can hit in the 65-100% power range.

try the sand wedge  flop shot  aim  about an  inch to the LEFT of the target,  more so if it is down hill

    Like in real golf..

sometimes its better to hit a softer 8i or 9i then a hard sw or pw when chipping

and use the flop, which in this game - always finishes right of the target so adjust like advised in the above post

I have always tried the pitching wedge, I am so so with that.  I was always taught to use a 7 iron when chipping. I may have to go back to that.

I agree, but the distance problem is in all aspects of the game. I had a 175 yard shot and used a club that said it would go 170 on full swing. I was hitting into a 6 mph wind and hit the ball 183 yards. Next time I tried going to a smaller club and this time the wind help the ball back. I too enjoy playing this game, but there are a lot of bugs that they need to work out before I will spent my money on joining.

exactly the same here -- you'd think 50% effort on 13yard club (wedge from greenside rought) would go about 6-7 yards... but no, that swing yields nothing but a chunk.  Only other complaint is Driver max's out at about 240.  What's up with that?

I agree with KillerRabitt, anything inside 18 yards just aim left of the pin and flop it. It won't go in the hole, but you're guaranteed it will be at the most 2 yards away from the hole.

I read many complaining about club distance, however, like in real life, there are many factors in determining how far a shot will carry.  One must take into consideration the lie (check the ball icon), the elevation of the shot (uphill or downhill), lie of the green (select putter to get the contours), and there are many other "tricks" that seasoned vets know about that are not that obvious.  Don't expect a chip shot over a 4 foot bank to a green to work, it won't.

     Well Said RugBurn

I have noticed many people are looking for everything to work seamlessly, that is not realistic then. if you want it to work the same everythime then sign up for pogo.com and play the golf challenge there. it is consistantly crap and is fun for a day. I have played many games that try to be life-like and one of the problems the best virtual games have is that the are not life-like because there is no variance as there is in the real game. For example: I was getting frustrated because sometimes a 3mph wind carries the ball a mile and sometime 5 mph does practically nothing....hmmmm... ever felt that way on the course Yuppers!!! that is realistic life
