Indeed maybe a case where coming up a little short is a good thing!! And the Never up never in motto doesn't apply.

Great Job on a well made tutorial!

Helped me get distance control to within a couple of feet on long putts and made the medium putts makable

Thank you for the great advice

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but the wind doesn't seem to effect putts at all. When I started I assumed a 30 mph wind accross St Andrews` greens would blow the ball offline like IRL. After some time I've discovered that the ball on the ground is not effected at all by wind. Kinda strange IMO.

Down hill ball momentum is the black art of this game. Miss enough putts 10-20 foot past and it comes to you like a knock in the nose. ;)

    Hi Nivlac,

Imagine consistently hitting the ball 5yds from the pin, and then 4 putting every hole... well thats my golf game for you...

And who would have thought id replicate it online!! (just kidding, 5yds from the pin real life means it bounced off a rock and got a lucky roll)

    So, i have just reduced your brilliant explanation to the following;

    1.       Add +/- 1 foot per inch above/below the hole

    2.       Calculate for green speed.

           a.       Vfast = 20% alteration to match slope direction

           b.      Fast = 10%

           c.       Standard = par

           d.      Slow = add 20% up, take 10% down

    3.       Choose angle based on best guess from experience (there can be no tricks to this one!)

    4.       Find which tier of swing the above calculation falls into, and then find its position as a percentage within that tier

    5.       Swing

    6.       Hit the ball dead centre (#1 most important)

    7.       Pray

Hoping you might review the above and make a comment where I can fine tune ...

It is your tips that have got me back into this game on the verge of quitting... which is bittersweet, because i would probably be better to get some work done!

So after playing a number of rounds on the WGT system, I

think I can finally "put my finger on" what the problem is that I

was specifically struggling on with WGT putting system.

I can read the green and adjust the speed accordingly and aim

properly.  (at least good enough for "guhdemnt werk")  What

was happening is that the green swatch line goes "rattle, rattle,

rattle, rattle, WOOSH" and then I missed to the right every time.

I am playing on the fastest machine in the house to help out.

It seems like the WGT putting algorithm takes into account the amount

of time that you draw back the putter to select the distance with

the yellow swatch.  So anytime I wasn't selecting with the yellow

swatch the distance IMMEDIATELY, it would be almost impossible

to finish the putt with a click near the line.  When I quickly select the

distance with the mouse, it seems to stabilize the meter a bit so that it

doesn't go crazy, and allows for an ATTEMPT to make it.  It isn't

perfect science because some holes it literally will not let you make

a putt from a certain direction on that green, but the WGT algorithm will

let you make a putt from less than a foot normally even if that green

at that certain direction is struggling.

My advice to anyone is to buy ANY putter than has the METER SPEED

at any level less than pegged on the left, then probably download and

print out one of the rogue "paper meters" to help, (I do not use a paper

meter or helping device) and DO NOT start to draw back the putter with

the mouse clicked until you are ABSOLUTELY SURE where you are going

to let go of the mouse on the YELLOW swatch, then quickly draw the

mouse back to the spot and TRY to get DING on the green swatch.
