Hello, Anyone else here play disc golf other than I? My son Jordan introduced me to the game about 5 years ago and I love it. In fact, it's reduced my ball golf playing by well over half, perhaps even more in order to get as much disc golf time in as possible. It's been around for quite some time, but realistically, it has only solidified itself as a reputable and legitimate professional sport about 7 or 8 years ago. Some of disc golfs attractive features It's ( for the most part ) free to play. City and State parks are often used for the permanent 18 hole layouts. There are a few pay-to-play courses, but I've never been to one. It's cheap to equip and get involved. Discs average about $12 usd each and are classified much the same as golf clubs, drivers, fairway drivers, putters. About the only departure from that standardized norm is discs classified as ' midrange ' discs. For the curious, stater packs that include all principle discs required, with a discs carrying bag, can be purchased for as low as $30 usd. Great exercise. The average course length is 3600-4300 feet, For reference, a mile is 5,280 feet. Naturally you'll end up walking more as you zig zag and meander around the layout and park. . It's far more friendly towards including the family than regular golf by huge leaps and bounds. I've yet to know anyone, and personally witness, children who didn't enjoy the game of disc golf. Throwing frisbees, c'mon, what kid wouldn't love the hell out of that? The culture. It's great. The players are extremely polite, friendly, and helpful. There are local clubs and organizations that are literally willing to bend over backwards to help you. Especially if you're new to the game. This is one key elements that drew me into to the sport. The people/players are simply amazing. Solid organizations, local leagues, and clubs, run volunteer operations and tournaments The PDGA ( Professional Disc Golf Association ) is the governing body with it's home base, in of all ironic places, Augusta Georgia. Its supportive to join the PDGA but certainly not any kind of requirement. I would urge you, my friends, to check it out.
