I have a great idea for quitters. Whenever they quit they aren't allowed to play abother round for an hour. I got this idea from another gaming site.

4 hours will be a better deterrent.

See a list of already proposed quitting deterrents. Let's hope WGT employs one or several of them soon.

Or none at all, because in the end, quitting just doesn't matter to most of the players of WGT.  Nothing is invested, other than time, so people will just quit when and if they want.  It's not a problem.

If you don't like quitters, come join the ladders at WGTLS...   Where playing a game actually means something and quitting is penalized.  Although the system is a bit flawed, it is infinitely better than the willy-nilly pick-up game here.

So, it's up to you.  You can

    1. Only play with a select group of people/friends you know who won't quit
    2. Join and play WGTL:S Ladder matches when you can find people who don't hide to protect their ranking
    3. Join blind pick-up groups here that will more than likely disintigrate after the first or second errant shot or bad hole.
    4. Any combination of the above.

Or, if quitting really bothers you... don't play multiplayer at all because even if you penalize people for quitting, they are going to do it anyway and it would become just another way to keep you scores artificially high so you can sandbag.

    Good luck.

I don't believe that's true. I'm convinced most people hate it when quitters constantly ruin their multi-player rounds.

They would do it far less frequently if one or several of the proposed quitting deterrents were implemented. The Ladders show this; there are hardly any quitters there, because each quitting is reported & penalized.

How can you punish someone who quites?.  Their are many reasons to quite, 1. computer connection, meter runs off the scale on its own which is why your shots go into the trees, well one of the reasons 2. Phone rings, wife comes home, childern need you, if play at work their are many reasons to quite. 3. ect....

This is not a real life golf course where you can just play golf without others things going on.

Now for those who like to think this is a real life golf course I think Snake has a good idea, play with a select group of people or friends who you know. Its so easy , no need for rules or punhishment after all this is a computer game.

Like I said many times before quitting hurts no one, you have the choice to keep playing.

WGT thanks for been patience with this subject.

P.S.  This is really a cool online golf game.

Swdeva, do we really need to re-hash all of this for the three thousandth time?  Smútok  If you at least took the trouble to click on the link I provided, you wouldn't have posted your reply the way you did.

    swdeva:

All of the arguments you listed are irrelevant. As is clearly stated in the post listing the proposed quitting deterrents, any quitting penalties would only be applied if a player refused to finish a round after the WGT server offered the option to the player. Neither computer / Internet connection problems, wives, or ringing telephones are relevant in such a case.

In short: you can always finish your multi-player round (even if later on individually) before starting another round. It's that simple!

    swdeva:

And every time you said it, you were clearly and manifestly wrong. Quitting definitely hurts, because it steals my time. I do not want to play any rounds with any quitters, so the quitter, by leaving me alone on the course, has stolen valuable minutes/hours from my life. There's no greater capital in life than free time; therefore, to steal time from other people, is among the most condemnable transgressions that I can imagine.

Otherwise, I fully agree with you regarding your praise for this golf game.  Dobre!

    Otázka

Don't see why you reprinted your previous paragraph. That is not the universal solution.

This site offers a feature: random-drawn multi-player rounds. This feature today is largely dysfunctional because of quitters. Finishing a random-drawn multi-player round as launched is as rare as snow in August.

So, the feature should be fixed by deterring quitters. It makes no sense to offer a feature if it doesn't work.

Plus, it can be pretty difficult to find enough friends you already know to launch a common round. Especially on European mornings when most of America is asleep, which situation you might be familiar with, writing from Finland.

Quitters should be deterred because they steal time from players who don't quit their rounds.
