I have been an active player here for a little over four years. In that time I have read a number of posts in the forum from people who I would classify as whiners. These are people who declare that the game is unfit to be played, is rigged, or is home to all sorts of cheaters and other miscreants. To these people at various time I have tried to point out that this is just an internet game meant for enjoyment. But there is one thing that I have failed to mention and that is personal pride.

This point was driven home to me this morning when I set out on my first round: the Monthly Unlimited 18 on Kiawah. After a birdie on one I managed a three putt bogey from inside 6 feet on two. Chit  is the best way to describe my feelings. Should I push the restart button. I have done it numerous times. But I did use my free pass so that my country club would get the points from this round. And a bad score would not do anything to my average so I decided to struggle on.  I birdie four of the next 7 holes  for a front 9 score of 32.  Not great by any means and I was only able to get a par on #7.

Now for the back nine.  A couple of birdies, a par, and then 6 birdies for a 28 and a 60 overall. Then I felt this pride of accomplishment. I had NOT bailed on a round, I had lowered my average by 0.01, and I had a near perfect back 9 on Kiawah.  All I could see were positives, Why treat this game as a punishment when it can be so personally rewarding?  And thus I am ready to go out and play again with no complaints about the unfairness of the greens, or wind, or even the cost of the balls. For you whiners, get a grip and enjoy your time here.

+1 But easier said than done . The problem that most of the whiners and complainers have is also pride . Some feel that when they hit the ding the ball is automatically supposed to go in the hole , period . It does`nt matter if the dinged shot is from the tee fairway or approach its supposed to go in the hole .

Also you must remember that there are 2 types of players here gamers and golfers . Gamers play and their expectations are simple beat the game no matter what and at all costs . The first paragraph also applies to them .

The golfer understands the game for what it is and knows just how a round can play out . A golf round can go from bad to great and from great to wtf happened here . I knew I should have stayed in bed today why did I even bother . Thats real golf you get what you play for but always be ready for a surprise .

Every shot replicated and duplicated in this game you will see happening in the real game of golf and also in any PGA tournament you watch on tv . But yes pride causes us to have certain expectations in the game from shots hit to results as well . When we dont get what we feel we should some quit and others endure .

The whiners complainers and cry babies are the ones who try to protect and worry about their averages (GAMERS) . The golfers take it on the chin and it is what it is and they play on knowing that another round means another opportunity to play a better round .

Play well have fun and never swing with your eyes closed . :-)

    Two great posts.

The only saving grace about playing a whiner is that he or she seldom lasts through the third hole, usually after griping two or three times about WGT.

Had a game like that yesterday. The griper bailed on the second hole. The remaining three of us battled to a three-way tie at three under and had a great time. All three of us missed  short birdie putts, but hey, that's golf.

    Two great posts.

    Hi

Just had a look and found my best round there Hack, a 63 from a couple of weeks back.

In anybodys book 60's a bloody good round, I'd love one. I've often started in a similar fashion and the rounds gone south from there. Every now and again I'll get it back or sometimes finish (for me) with a good one. I can bleat and moan with the best of them but I'm the one who propelled the thing in the wrong direction to start with, I should at least try to get it back. I'm not a golfer outside here, it was the challenge of this game that hooked me and nobody said it was going to be easy. In fact if it was I'd probably have got bored with it by now and left.

Next time you get one starting like that though and maybe think about restarting, send it my way. A whole three strokes better than my best, and I was chuffed when I finished with that. Puts it into perspective.

    Cheers!

    Rich.

Well, that's just not entirely correct.   Except the last line

I've been golfing for 25+ years, I've never seen a ball land on fringe/apron and rocket across the green at mach2 and bury itself into a bunker.

I have CG15 wedges in my bag in real life, I've never seen a flop I've hit with my 62 degree runout some 25 ft across the green becaue it landed on a slight down slope.

I've never seen a punch shot I've hit with my 5wd get blown 15yrds offline and into water because of a 6 mph cross wind, and I've never seen an approx.10mph headwind take 25 yds off a drive hit with my driver.

List goes on... I'm not bitching about the game, I'm just stating that no, you certainly will not see a number of shot results from this game on any real golf course anywhere.

It's not a golf simultor.... I don't expect it to play like one. )

The ball landing on the fringe/apron was a shot that hit either a sprinkler head or water coupler cover or a drain cover . Hit anyone of those and you will see that happen .I saw it happen today while watching the Honda Classic .You may have real Cleveland wedges but you arent playing on real PGA courses under tournament green settings either .

As for the shot hit with a 5 wood that wont happen here because there are no 5 woods to play with . Too also imply that you have never mishit a shot in your 25 years of playing real golf well then you have never played real golf .The game does deviate shots resulting in bad results for poorly hit shots whether you hit the shot or not .

No you arent bitching just trolling thats all . You can create a list and try to nitpick the game all day long but thats up to you . Although you may have been playing golf for 25 years which I do doubt , the game nor its outcomes are not carved in stone according to you or by what you havent seen .

Yes this is a simulator which is why you are playing it just like you would play the real game of golf . Just because you are clicking a mouse and using an avatar means nothing .Now if you want to get more of a simulator feel then play the game using sky trak and all of your dreams will come true .

Now troll along and go show some one else just how much you dont know about the game of golf .

Let's face it, the reason most of us RL golfers play this game is because we all swing like Iron Byron on here.  If we could score on the RL courses as we do on here then we'd all be rich as chit and buddying up with Dustin, Phil, Bubba, Rory, Jordan, Ollie, etc. on a weekly basis.  Instead...we sit at home behind a screen and live a dream we can't realize in RL.

Good points PMM, but I play the game because I'm now confined to a wheelchair and can no longer play golf in RL. I wasn't brilliant at it [Hcp in the low to mid teens], but I enjoyed it immensely along with the chance to socialise with other like-minded people.

Like all golfers I met some a---holes along the way, but the good times clearly out-weighed the bad. I've enjoyed my time on WGT and reckon that it's about as close as you can get to the real thing.

Play the game and enjoy it for what it is - a computer GAME!!!!!!

    Cheers
