Anyone notice if you use less then 100% of the club the result is maddeningly inconsistent? For example - your 8 iron is listed at full capacity for 150 yards, but you have only 140 yards to the hole, so you shorten up a little & end up way short of the cup. SUX!

More so if FBS is applied according to what I've experienced.

I, therefore, use a bit more power and less backspin in that situation and I get satisfactory results most of times.

Keep in mind your swing is not linear. For instance,  a 90% swing doesn't get a 90% result. This is where knowing what your club's carry  (air time) really helps.

Most of my irons, full distance is based on about 1/2 bs.  Fbs will knock about 5 yards off of the shot.

About 93/94% 1/2 bs would be about 140 of my 150, 95% is 141.  FBS about 97% for 140(145-5). See right there I shot harder to shoot shorter, depends on spin you use and what ball. That is with not having to calculate for wind or elevation/drop.

Clubs are reasonably linear down to about 90% power. Below that, it's all about feel and experience.

And, as others have said, spin changes everything.
