Weird but true....Australia did participate in the 2015 Eurovision music contest held in Vienna Austria.

The event finished just some minutes ago with Sweden winning the competition.

Australia did extremely good with a 5th place out of 40 countries participating, considering the very first time a new county enters Eurovision and being indeed ....and for the record, from outside Europe.

Australia came as an "special guest" due to the huge popularity of the Eurovision event among the Aussies.

Great event, I enjoyed a lot : ))), next year, in 2016, is Sweden the host again after hosting it in 2013. This Swedish are good at it ; )) .....LOL

    Say what???

    Popularity of the contest???

About as popular as watching Parliament TV.

I remember watching this in the UK and the show was cheesier than all the cheese in France.

Only reason people I knew watched it was to have a laugh.

The Swedish can keep it.  To include Australia in "Euro" just enhances the joke.

    One of many..................

LOL....you do not watch it obviously Alan , but there are many Aussies who do ; ). Statistics do not lie and that is why Australia is now in the "European" show.

Like WGT, business are business. Eurovision reaches a mass amount of viewers every year mostly from Europe but also from almost all over the world. There is lots of money involved in such music festival and all want to be part of it.

The UK, Italy, France, Germany & Spain have already bought their "permanent" ticket for the competition (paying with euros), the rest of the other European countries have to qualify in order to reach the finals if selected by the other 56 countries vote (some voting rules per qualifying per country).

However, each country participating has to pay a fee to enter and also pay for the expenses and visual effects they want to be part of their performance, and other expenses too, etc, etc.

Imagine the very popular European soccer "Champions League"...this is more or less the same, but with music.

Will Australia buy their "permanent" ticket for the competition?, Australia certainly have the bread and the viewers to do just that, but until now all is still unclear.

Weird, joke, craziness, insanity, etc?, money can buy that and even more, ask WGT.....Imao : )))

Eurovision is now a huge event for single women of a certain age and the gay community.

Australia, culturally speaking, very much deserve to be part of this.

Eurovision being compared to European Champions League football!!  LMAO.

    Here's how Eurovision compares -

Since Abba won it in the early 70's, anyone with any musical talent whatsoever is banned from entering the song contest.

LOL Eric......been to many a football game and 100.000 drunken fans at Wembley had more musical talent :))

But I agree, this has had longevity and will outlast Terry Wogan..

Great show...lots of laughs for the deaf
