Listen WGT, you definatly have a meter issue and we're the ones who have to deal with it. Well I know I'm not the only one and apparently your not smart enough to come up with a solution. Let me tell you my idea. Listen carefully with both ears. Put everyone at the same meter speed instead of so many different speeds. Since games are played with different teired players most of the times this is where your server has to differ between players in the same game. Who cares what teir they're at for meter speed or what clubs they use. The club difference is  up to that individual. Take all that different meter speed out and it would not be a factor. Saying that how do I even know you'll take this into consideration, I dont because you never reply to anything. So I'm starting a petition on facebook so that you have to address this. Maybe that will get something done

dcassman... not to put holes in your theory but a little over a year ago when everyone played with the same clubs and there were no meter variations with those clubs... all were exactly the same speed (same as today's starter clubs)... there were still meter stutter problems.

But yours was a novel approach.

So, if I understand what you're saying Double, the meter has been a problem for a long long time.

I've only been around since March of this year so the meter is what it is (although considerably worse stutter-wise over the past week).

I've looked through the forums and can't find any references to WGT actually attempting fixes for the problem other than "clear your cache blah blah blah" ad nauseum.

If there are, please, somebody, point me in the right direction. I'd like to read about these attempts. Or maybe a history lesson regarding meter improvements/degradation from some of you who have been around WGT a lot longer than some of us?

I'm really interested in this because it's becoming a show-stopper for me.

Stutter has been visible this week a lot and loading times are very slow also, maybe the 2 problems are an indication that wgt has a few memory leeks again,lol..I have also noticed another permanent name on the flash cache setting called      doug1zaerwt3 cloudfront.net.. this wasn't there before the l;ast update,, now its a permanent attachment.

If I may, Bear, yes. The meter I am playing today is exactly the same as it has been since I joined some 16 months ago. I seriously believe it's as good as its ever going to get. I don't know enough about alternatives to comment on them.

I didn't say it was nice, Priestess, I said it was the same. Every complaint here about the meter applies to me and has been that was since day 1.  I do like you do and deal with it. The gist is it hasn't changed in 16 months.  :-)

Thanks for letting me know that Jim.

I guess the next question to WGT is - what are you doing about it? If it's a problem that has been so widespread and around for so long, surely you must be doing something about it?

If you are, and I've missed it, please point me in the right direction.

The swing meter problem will never be fixable so long as WGT insists on doing it in "real-time" over the Internet. Waaaay too many variables and interferences there, and one player's connection is invariably going to be better/worse than an opponent's. Unfair advantage to the high dollar connection.

What is baffling is that WGT hasn't hit upon the relatively simple to program idea of offering a downloadable swing meter module. Stands to reason that a swing meter running on one's own CPU would run dependably smooth.

Upon the hit click, it transmits the data of backswing and contact relative to the ding to the WGT server, which then applies the variables for club selection and ball spin along with the physical variables such as wind, elevation, etc., as it has been doing all along. Maybe a noticeable millisecond of delay between the send and the avatar moving, but big deal. No more meter palsy.

I'm running on a pretty schizo connection and am about fed up with the meter skips. And yes, I'm using a game booster, an empty start menu, the game in the only browser window, all the tricks, and am still getting meter-whupped. Gets tiresome trying real hard and having a lag or hiccup in the Internet trash your efforts.

This problem is fixable, but no amount of tweaking is going to iron out the quirkiness of the Internet. You're bandaging the wrong wound, Yossarian.

A real-time swing meter is simply not a viable system, unless of course all players are one hop from the Internet backbone on a fiber optic line as big as your leg.
