Almost everyone that is master or higher is facing new challenges.
Some of the old pros are now masters, and they're complaining that they never got access to the master clubs and are now screwed. Although they fail to see that they are not the only people facing new challenges, you do have to feel a little sorry for them. IMO, people with 300 or more ranked rounds should be given 10 extra levels, and those with 600 or more rounds should be given 20 extra levels... and 900 or more rounds, 30 extra levels. Outside of handing out some levels to the vets to help them get new clubs, they're just going to have to adjust, just like legends are adjusting to tournament and championship greens. This is fixed.
At first glance, allowing people under 65 to be called "legends" seemed rather ridiculous, but the tournament and championship greens can turn good rounds into unimpressive rounds or even outright disasters. Example: I just five-putted Oakmont #9 on championship greens. (Started from 60 ft, and the putt was impossible... ended up 13 ft away, which was actually a pretty decent effort... got to 2.5 ft from there and miraculously missed the putt... and my ball rolled 10 ft away. Missed that one, but ended up only 1.8 ft away, which I was able to tap in.) Getting adjusted to the greens is going to mean that I'll be forced to figure out why my distance equation is falling apart on the higher green speeds, but even after I get that done, and after others get it done as well, 65 could still very well become the new 60. A 58-59 average, which was only slightly difficult to attain prior to the changes, now feels miles away. What seemed, at first, to be foolish, now seems pretty reasonable after having my ass handed to me by a hard green.
