In Finland, they have ‘National Sleepy Head Day’, where the last person in a family to wake up is thrown into a lake or the sea by the rest of the family.

In 1816, the United States built a fort to protect itself from invasion by Canada. There was only one small problem: due to a surveying error, it was built in Canada. It was later known as "Fort Blunder".

Words that have been rejected by the Oxford English Dictionary include polkadodge (the dance of two people trying to pass each other), sprog (to go faster than a jog but slower than a sprint) and smushables (the items put at the top of your shopping so they don't get squashed).

Any steel used in Geiger counters must be from before 1945 so that it isn't contaminated with radiation from nuclear weapons. One of the primary sources for such steel is sunken ships from World War 2.
