My primary setup is the same as Jim's (except it's a Dell laptop) so I won't post here. I have to agree that a 1.6ghz P4 is a bit light. Also you didn't mention but if you are using some shared memory for video, part of your 1.5ghz won't be available for the OS or applications.

I have very few issues with the meter. maybe a hiccup every so often, but nothing to get po'd about. I did read something about turning the hardware acceleration off within Flash for sluggish issues. This wasn't specifically for WGT...but some other online games that maybe similar.

I have read many of your posts about the meter and server overcrowding and so on. Some of your hypothesis make sense, but the bottom line is that you don't have facts to back them up. I have yet to see WGT post the hardware configurations of it's server(s) and the number of people accessing them at any one time. I have been in computer troubleshooting/support/repair (including high availability enterprise systems) for over 32 years now and know that without all the facts,  troubleshooting an issue like this is extremely difficult. I do applaud your determination, but in the end, without all the facts, you are probably wasting your time. Good luck.

Here’s a logical answer for you Jay.

I have mishit a smooth meter far more times as a ratio to swings taken than any meter issues have caused me to mishit.

Sometimes my mishit goes exactly where I wanted it to go leading me to realize to change my calculations next time around.

For me meter issues are way down the list for better play.

I’m just lucky I guess (or Irish).

Again I think people are mostly confused about why the poll is here, it is NOT to try and figure out why I see a few stutters, I mostly know where my issues stem from.

Day after day you see people complaining about this problem, this was the chance to do something about it on your end.  I am also very curious on what causes other people to see issues and I figured other people were curious as well.

Oh and as Jake and someone else mentions, video is a very important piece of the puzzle but I knew I was asking too much already.

All factors are relevant, cpu, video and updated driver, internet speed, servers, flash, etc ALL and like Norm mentions more than just what was outlined.

I know I have been harping on the servers but it seems not everyone shares this experience like what I see myself and it is only one factor of many to consider, this was another reason for the poll.

    My system specs

    1. XP-Pro
    2. Firefox 3.6
    3. Intel 3.0 Ghz dual core
    4. 2 gigabytes of ram
    5. Display; 1024*768;  32bit;      100Hz monitor frequency
    6. 10.0.45.2
    7. Background loading turned off
    8. flash quality setting high
    9. game booster; No!!!!
    10. Operating system optimize and slimmed down
    11. No
    12. anytime
    13. Its hard to judge, sometimes none, sometimes 15%
    14. Graphic stuttering is indication of meter problems.
    15. Haven't spent to much time on peak hours, thus can't answer the question

Overall, I don't see the magnitude that other individuals see with regards to meter performance.  Generally, being honest,  Its in frequent,  but does annoys me when it happens.

    Infinito3010:

Any idea how this is related? When the graphics stutter I'm usually more vigilant but always wondered if one caused the other.

For example when you putt, is the ball moving smooth, or is it jumpy.  To me that is indication to make practice swings and generally slow down.  Although, I am slow anyways.  How smooth the motion is in the graphics is an indicator of performance.

    1.  Windows XP Home Edition SP3

    2. Firefox

    3.  Pentium 4 2.2GHz

    4.  2.0G (added 1 Gig last fall and it helped.)

    5.  1280 x 1024

    6.  10,1,51,45

    7.  Background loading off

    8.  Flash quality setting Medium

    9.  game booster? Yes

    10.  Yes.

    11.  Excel and Task manager.  Excel sits there idle, auto save is off.   Virus updates are shut off

    12. Normal hours of play:   morning and late afternoon/early evening. (6am to noon, 3pm-7pm  PST)

    13.   How often are you seeing meter issues?  1/4 of my single player and 2/3 of my MP rounds have meter issues.  Sometimes 2 or 3, Some times 5 to 10.  Rare I have a MP round w/o a stutter or two.

    14.  When you have meter issues, how often do you also see other issues: 80%

    15.  Do you notice more problems during the peak hours of 6pm - 10pm PST?   NO

The worst scenario is when its running smooth and out of nowhere, with no indication from loading or graphics, bang the meter stops mid downswing.  I hate that.  Then its hell for a couple of holes and goes away.  And I always check for some other background process running, never is.

*edit* I agree with Infinito, graphics getting jumpy is a good indicator to watch out!

OK-this begs the question. How does this involve anything but the local machine?

Don't get confused between graphic stutter and graphic loading, these are potentially two separate things.

I believe I see them both when things are at their worst.

To try and clarify, graphic loading is something like "the next hole" loading up, this would be more server related but not necessarily ALL server caused.  Graphic stutter is more like the next camera pan in a shot already taken (camera angle), the ball rolling as Infinito points out or the meter itself, which is mostly going to be machine related but this is the part I wonder about for some people.

I have flight combat simulator that I achieve a frame rate of 70 fps.  This simulator is CPU intensive which include all the AI for aerial and ground forces.

I believe what you see as a stuttering graphics, (not smooth) is the results being sent back from the servers.  Hence, the stuttering graphics is not client machine related.  The CPU usage in my opinion should be negligible.  All the calculations are being done at server end and we see the results on the screen.
