    Hi All,

When I'm playing against friends we like to chat some - right? For me its a social game with friends, and I put the time aside to play the match - no rush!!  We may not have caught up for some time, so - thats what the chat functions for.

For me 90 secs is perfect, and I wont be pressured to play any quicker especially when I am in a tournament eg Ryder Cup - playing against the best on the site.  I am not that good and need that time, occasionally, just to make sure I'm giving it my best shot for me and for the team. I am not going to be hurried thats for sure.

Also I dont have any issue with players taking their full 90 secs either, and I've never had any issues during game play. The current rule is 90 secs  - end of story.

Tee shots - yeh, take no time really, putting likewise does not have a large time factor against it. The only shots I take time over are my second and occasional 3rd shot and as has been mentioned previously you can be working on those whilst others are having their shots.

Multiple time options - fine by me.

    Just my 2bobs

    Doug

Players are always going to play at their own pace.  No one can change that. Thus, when a variable timer does become available, just make sure one joins a game that is suitable to their style of play.

These threads are amusing to say the least.  Nothing like polarizing topic to boil the blood.

I play moderately quick except for long putts and tricky greenside gems that take a few extra seconds of thought.  However, I do vary my play when playing solo or multitasking watching TV or something else.  I've been known to walk away from a RG birdie putt for a few minutes.

I think that more than likely the players who take the clock down the most are people that probably don't plat golf in real life or do so with limited success.  And there's not a thing wrong with that.  But I can relay a plethora of times that one of my real golf rounds was lacking in satisfaction due to another, whether in my group or not, holding up the masses on the course.  Golf is a game of respect and there's nothing more infuriating to a golfer to see another on the course selfishly disrupting the game for others.  However, this is just a video game and the faster players can just choose not to play with the slow pokes, but I think principle staying in rhythm and respect for others still partially transfers.

Kinda like playing the first 2 holes smoothly, between 2 foursomes, and rounding the bend to the Par 3 3rd and running into 2 foursomes waiting in front of you because the clown on the green doesn't know about hitting up and is agonizing over a friggin 3 ft putt-momentum gone.............

I am with SP on this, 20-30 seconds max per shot.  I dont understand how people use 90 seconds to line up a shot.  Similar to regular golf, read it, line it up, step up and hit it.  Standing over the ball too long only allows other things to enter your mind, or read things that are not there.

No thanks for the 2 hour 9 hole match, we have all played this courses numerous times, seen most of the hole from every angle, whats there to stare at for 90 seconds?

Wow!  Relax.  Eat a little more bran.

Not everyone has connectivity issues.  But the pace of play is like they are playing for a paycheck.  It's a video golf game and it's meant to be fun.  Many people I play with lock and load and keep moving and that's great.  But it shouldn't take an hour to play nine holes.  If you're chatting and stuff I can understand but to simply play shouldn't take that long.  It's almost like real golf when you're playing with a guy whos a 40 handicap and he's taking five practice swings on every shot.  LIne it up and swing.  That's all I'm saying.

I prefer to play with fast players (and would ideally love to find a 4 some of players who take less than 10 seconds for every shot), but I don't begrudge the slower players and have no problems playing with them.

I pretty much multi task everything, and playing this game is no different.   If the other person is taking their time sizing up their shot, no big deal, I'll just pay more attention to the TV or do some web surfing during my down time.

PS:   If WGT does institute a variable shot clock, I'd love for the shortest time increment to be 10 seconds.

I am a very fast player (always less than fifteen secs) but ideally the shot limit should be around 45 secs.  Sometimes you get in the chewy stuff in high winds and need a bit more time to calculate risk reward and landing zones.

Another point of etiquette if you prefer chat is to wait until the other player is in their shot to type your responses.  Don't send until after they swing as this can be very distracting too.  This speeds the game up greatly.  Players who chat away whilst their clock is running are comparable  that friend on the real course who takes 2 practice swings, sets up over the shot, then backs off to share not so funny anecdote that always leaves you shaking your head, and perhaps chucking an empty beer can at them.

I was in a foursome last year with three very deliberate players that actually approached four hours for 18 holes.  It was surreal.

If a shorter clock were ever actually implemented, I would also suggest one 60 second timeout per player in case mother nature comes calling or you're really having a hard time figuring out the shot.  You would get one warning for exceeding clock before penalty and you're TO as a just in case.  More than fair IMO.

Another idea would be to have shot clock based on tier.  Newbies definitely need a bit more time than a master who has most every shot pre-programmed in his or her mind.

I'm with dorkfeatures, 90 seconds is about right, for now.  Once WGT adds stance, sidehill/uphill/downhill lies and fade/draw decisions and adjustments it will take more time to pull the trigger.

I'm fine if people want the option to reduce the time on their games.

Avg. time to pull the trigger on drives, approaches and putts would be a good addition to the stats IMO.

We're still on the fence about the default time of 90 seconds, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to drop it to 60, but no decision has been made yet.   Later on we will be adding optional timers for you to choose from when setting up to host a game.  Once we have a selection of timers we will consider adjusting the default timer, but for the time being it will remain at 90 seconds.
