So we have all been there Kiawaw #17 scared of the water. I need a rule clarification. One, is this a lateral water hazard which I believe it is. Two my ball bounces not once but twice on the side beneficial to a golfer. I don't know all the rules so I need clarification. This is what I could find....

26-1. Relief for Ball in Water Hazard It is a question of fact whether a ball that has not been found after having been struck toward a water hazard is in the hazard. In order to apply this Rule, it must be known or virtually certain that the ball is in the hazard. In the absence of such knowledge or certainty, the player must proceed under

Rule 27-1. If a ball is in a water hazard or if it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in a water hazard (whether the ball lies in water or not), the player may under penalty of one stroke:

    a. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5), or

    b. Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped; or

    c. As additional options available only if the ball last crossed the margin of a lateral water hazard, drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than

    (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or

(ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole. When proceeding under this Rule, the player may lift and clean his ball or substitute a ball.

So I look at this and I can drop two club lengths no closer to the hole from which my ball last entered the hazard. Correct me if I am wrong? My next shot was from a bunker across the water.

Look at my replays to see if I am seeing this right. And then my next shot is 53 yds away from a bunker across the water? Look on my profile for my next shot setup. This makes no sense!

Please let me know if I am incorrect cause this is bothering me. So if first you look at replay, then my screenshot in my blog post. You can see the result of my shot and confusion. Please advise!

    Thank you,

Saw your shot.  According to the programming you likely never crossed the hazard line but it sure looks like it did.  I've hit that shot a few times and received a drop in the rough there.  Also had the same scenario you encountered a few times.

Definition of hazards on Kiawah is something that could use some work for sure.  Almost every time you hit into a hazard it's stroke and distance.  The rules above will regarding drop options will likely be too hard to integrate so if you're lucky enough to get a drop the computer will determine where you go.

Thanks for your quick respone. It just seemed really weird. The up and down from the rough was more inviting then the shot from the bunker. To boot this was in a ready go, which by then(after entering the water) I had played myself out of any money, but when the next shot reloaded I was bothered. Good night and Good luck!

Here is another example of some questionable programming.  The ball clearly lands in play on the correct side of the hazard, takes a horrible bounce, then I get the Water Hazard flash up on screen.  Clearly should have been a drop at point of entry, not stroke and distance as it were a lost ball.
