putting does seem worse, or more difficult anyway, now than in the previous (closed) beta version, and that was the biggest complaint then too.  4-8 yards almost seems more difficult than 10-12 yards.

also remember spin, which is the red dot on the ball, the lower the dot ,the more spin. it will stop faster on the green as well.and ,when you aim,you can pull the aim arrow and see the distance change,so if there is alot of wind from behind pull the ball back slightly,it will roll some,so also take that into account. It's a trial process and i have by no means perfected it!! enjoy...

If you watch closely there is a pattern.  If you hit your drive perfect and it lands right of the arrow, then your approach shot will go about 5 ft right, and a straight put will start out 1/2 to 1 cup right as well.  You have to take this into account when you are playing break on the green.  The next hole it will probably reverse and everything will be left, and so on.  You just have to notice the pattern and account for it.

The wind still effects the shot normally, this is really only applicable to the starting line of the ball.

On the skill challenge there seems to be some sort of random pattern on each hole... i havent figured it out yet.

I think the biggest issue I have with "perfect" shots is that this is when the randomness left/right in your shot seems the greatest. I think the best examples are the two Par 3 holes. I understand that there's going to be a greater randomness because it's off the tee, but if I line up the shot to the right of the hole by 5-10 yards, hit a perfect shot, the ball winds up to the left of the hole (speaking on hole 8, which almost always has the wind blowing at you). However, if I don't hit a perfect shot, but am close to the perfect shot line, the ball flies very close to where I aimed.

I'm sure I'm missing something, though. This is my observation after numerous rounds, but there's probably something I'm not accounting for.
