To save pitching and chipping, best to land on the green.

Great insights and tips. At the moment I'm so bad at Chipping I exclusively use the 64 degree wedge PITCH when I'm inside 17 yards, especially good on those hard sloping greens when you want to get it to the hole and stop it.

The flop works will for something between 20-28 yards or so, and beyond that it's the magic of the punched 64 degree wedge all the way out to 50 yards. That's the money club for me.

Longer pitches and really any chips I seem to get totally out of control on and risk leaving the ball way short or (more often) about 8 yards long.

Out of the bunkers I guess with a full wedge. I probably should get better at that. :-D

That pitch works from greenside traps. The punch shot is also great out of traps where the pitch won't make it out.

I do not chip, pitch, flop, or punch on any short shot. I use a full swing with a strike percentage based on experience and adjustments for lie, elevation, and wind. I also use backspin on almost all shots. I have found this will land the ball closer to the hole and eliminate most of the intervening terrain. this works if you have good wedges and most important balls that spin.

That's why these numbers are painfully low over 2500 rounds.  ;-)
